Wiretapping Laws And Recording In Public

Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:12 pm

Interesting article on Gizmodo (tech blog):

I also heard this on the radio coming in to work today. While I'm sure a tourist walking down the street filming his trip to Chicago has nothing to worry about, the looming idea of 4 to 15 years in prison for possibly accidentally recording a police officer when he does not want to be recorded is disturbing, to say the least.

As far as I can tell, though, this only applies to audio recordings (including video with audio). I guess CCTVs are exempt then.

Better think twice before pulling out the cell phone and shooting some video. Again, the chances of a tourist getting nabbed for innocent filming is one in who knows how many, but it still is distrubing.
The above post is my opinion. Don't like it? Don't read it.
