MacBook Pro Mouse Issues?

Fri Sep 03, 2010 10:31 am

Macs have always worked fine with me, no issues at all (except when I spilt milk all over my moms haha) but anyway, recently my MacBook Pro 13" (not sure about the specs) has been acting odd. Randomly, for no reason at all, it just keeps clicking. It will highlight when ever I drag over anything. It just keeps holding down click!

My sister also has the same issue, and one of my friends at school! I have googled it, and there is deffo a problem with some of these machines. Does anyone know how to fix it?

It does go away after a while (it can be a few secs or a few hours) and happens at least twice a day.

Thanks!

Here is a video of what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDWSgjw_dFU
I manage to click around doing right clicks, but its so annoying!

You're holding it wrong.

Are you using a mouse or the trackpad?

The trackpad can be configured in various ways for tap-hold operation – it might be a good idea to check the trackpad control panel in that case.

Trackpad. I do use the magic mouse from time to time. I have changed a few of the settings on the menu, still no luck!

Might just have to take it to the apple store..

Does it still happen when you switch off all the tap-click and tap-hold options and use just the mechanical click?

OS and firmware updates are all current? I seem to remember a trackpad firmware update a while ago (mine was not affected – it's too old).

And you've got no third-party mouse/trackpad utilities installed?

If all that is the case, I'd first call Apple about it and if they don't have a better idea ultimately bring it to the Apple Store.

Yep, all up to date! And not that I am aware of.

I will give them a call sometime this week. Thanks for your help

you know what, just yesterday I had this happen to me. It was BEYOND frustrating. It happened totally at random, continued to do it after 5 reboots, and then about 2 hours later, started working just fine.

Let me know what you find out!

DUDE!!!

I thought I was crazy. My Macbook started doing that last night, just completely out of nowhere. It acts as if I hold the mouse down when I really don't.

I even tried re-starting the machine. It just does it a few times a day, and can last for different durations every time. SO WEIRD.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I have EXACTLY that issue.

I have actually reported this to apple, but they have done nothing about it so far...

Happened about 5 times to me today, I just have to reboot every time.
