Are You Ready For Some Football?

Fri Sep 10, 2010 2:31 am

Saints just scored a touchdown and lead the Vikings 14-9. This game should be a lot higher scoring IMHO. No way the Saints repeat as Super Bowl Champs. No way the Bengals make it to the playoffs either - sorry Phil. Who is your team and who do you like in the Super Bowl?

For the record, Mendis is resting his Anet Fantasy Football legacy on one player again this season - Josh Cribbs.

Farve showing he still love to passes and throw picks. Minnesota is a bunch of fools to not rebuild and try to get a franchise guy under center.

1 pick that netted NO nothing. Big deal. Farve's O-line sucked big time. They let him get killed.

good analysis ... it really does start with O line. AP had 87 yds but it does not seem that either line was really dominate. The Stats show the game was really pretty even in every category ... except the one that counts.

I am on the Houston Band waggon this weekend ... Beat them Colts !.

Although I'm obviously not on the Texans bandwagon, I believe they'll beat Indy this weekend. Colts offensive line has appeared to struggle and will most likely allow Houston's defense to get pressure on Manning.

I don't see Houston in the SB, but I'd love to see them beat Indy twice this year. They'd have an excellent chance with Cushing playing, but I still like their odds - Schaub, Foster, and A. Johnson.

Not the first sucker bet I have made    . Shanahan , McNabb to Cooly and Moss.... and they still have a decent running game. The Cowboys do not look that good , the Eagles seem average ... the Giants are the team to beat . Should be interesting ...

Shanahan will work the running game .... that is his thing. If he can get it on track then Moss and Cooley will be in play. And don't forget Mike Furry .... that little dude can catch underneath he is a good player for McNabb to hit on short routes.

They might not make it to the SB, but good possibility they could win the division. The Colts are going to have to bottom out sometime, since they have virtually done nothing to address their defense issues.

Quoting AGM100 (Reply 9):

Ehhhh I dunno about that. They did go all out for defense this year during the draft, but they didn't really add anything to the offense. I think that might cost them in the long run.

IMHO, the teams to watch out for this year are the Ravens, Saints (if they continue to play defense like last night), Texans, and Falcons. Each should be considerably better this year, and one of those 4 will probably make it to the SB.

I would love to put my Chargers on that list, but considering they keep blowing it in the biggest games of the season...

The Texans will finish 3rd in the AFC South this year, you heard it here first.

I can't stand the Texans and their fans. Wayyyy too aggy for me.

Cowboys-I'll be disappointed with anything less than a Super Bowl appearance.

Titans-Looking for a playoff spot this year.

Interestingly, Skip Bayless (who is one of the least educated sports personalities around) predicted the Cowboys to beat the Titans in the Super Bowl. That is just one of many reasons why he's a raging idiot.

Good thing I don't have to watch too much, since I'm in NYC and can follow the Jets to my heart's content. Hopefully they can beat the Ravens on Monday, and hopefully Revis isn't too out of shape. They'd better make the playoffs this year, but I don't think they're going to make it to DFW.

Well, I wanted to see what Adam Shein's picks are for this week, and personally, I think his opinion about Big Ben and the Steelers are very far off. He thinks that Big Ben should be in jail. What, did he actually see what the hell happened at that night club or in the casino? I don't condone what Ben did either, but to pass judgement off like that is immature and uncalled for. He's acting as though he saw the whole thing but is passing off his judgement based on his personal hatred toward Ben. How old is Adam Shein, 7?

Personally, I think he's innocent, but he's still amazingly stupid to put himself in situations like that knowing that he has big shoes to fill being in the position he's in. He was suspended for 6 games initially, but due to good behavior (I have heard his behavior was good; he signed autographs, was more fan-friendly, and didn't seem to get into any additional trouble) his suspension was reduced. It will take some time for me to completely forgive Ben, but he is making progress.

His remarks are beyond idiotic. The Falcons will upset the Steelers at Heinz Field on Sunday? Shein, little boy, do us all a favor and grow the hell up. Put your anti-Steelers/Ben garbage away and do something intelligent for once.

And I am thinking a win for the Black and Gold this weekend. It may be a hunch, but I think he's going to pick against the Steelers every week for the next month or so...

The Vikings are going to face a long season if they allow Favre to get smoked in the pocket like they did last night. Odd how in the NFC Championship Game last season was an offensive shoot-out and this time around it was a defensive battle.

Quoting thegreatRDU (Reply 3):

Nope. Not this weekend. GO BIG BLUE AND ELI MANNING!    The Giants are going to be the Wild Card in the NFC East this season (I don't mean that's where they'll finish). Some analysts are counting them out and expect them to do nothing while others think they can win the division. The Giants are lucky because they get two by-weeks this season. One is the scheduled by-week and the other is when they play the Detroit Lions.

Bengals open up against New England at Gillette Stadium and the schedule doesn't get much easier from there. Bengals have one of the toughest schedules in all of the NFL this season, including having to play both Super Bowl attendees from last season (Bengals on the road against the Colts and at home against the Saints). Besides the Brownies, they face a tough division schedule with Pittsburgh and Baltimore. They also have to play the AFC runner-up New York Jets (as the third game on Thanksgiving night) and also have to play San Diego. As tough as the Bengals schedule is, 10-6 would be a good season.

Heck, Pittsburgh had a hellish schedule in 2008 and look how they finished. Anything is possible... Especially now with T.O. in addition to Ochocinco. Personally, I'd like to see T.O. hit the wall that is known as the Steel Curtain. I cannot stand him at all; I think he's one of the most obnoxious pains in the rear to ever play the game...

I'd like to think that the Steelers will be just fine this season and finish up with a similar record (10-6 or 11-5). I can't believe that a Sports Illustrated writer is picking them to win the Super Bowl this year, according to the latest issue. (I guess considering that NO early pick to win the Super Bowl ever makes it to the big game, I guess we can all rule out the Steelers at this point anyway...) I absolutely cannot stand what Adam Shein was saying about them in his week 1 picks on foxsports.com. He blasted the Steelers and the organization because Ben's suspension was reduced, and then he picks the Falcons to upset the Steelers at home...

If he's so fricking smart and knows exactly what happened, then why is he not working for law enforcement?

I can understand how Rex's bravado can get under the skin of some. It'll be getting under my skin too if he doesn't back it up with some wins. Yes, Ray Lewis is going to make an impact the moment he steps on the field, but the Jets defense isn't too shabby either, even with Revis at less than 100% (and you know he'll get tested right off the bat). I'll be surprised if either team puts up 20 points - Jets win 16-13.

I believe they were the first team to have cheerleaders, believe it or not (I didn't believe it when I heard about that). Then, the Rooneys did away with it because they thought the idea of having cheerleaders was ridiculous.

Instead, they have one of the biggest groups of cheerleaders of just about any team anywhere, the millions of fans that make up Steeler Nation.

I just think cheerleaders is a college thing. No real need for it in the NFL. The game game itself should be entertaining enough and the look of cheerleaders on the sideline of a NFL game is cheesy to me. The only fame NFL cheer leading got was the Cowboy cheerleader but that has come and in gone as people gave a crap about them in the 70's and early 90's but like I said, it ain't bad too look at during between plays.

Let us hope for an exciting and competitive season by all teams, that the games are entertaining, that no one is badly hurt for the season (especially my fantasay team lead players!).

I'm excited.

I can't believe how the Colts just collapsed like that! I did not see that one coming at all! I'm sure they'll bounce back eventually though. I seem to remember them starting out in a hole only to come out flourishing later on. I think they'll be fine.

I watched a little bit of the G-Men game and they looked impressive. I wish I could say the same about the Eagles. They look miserable against a high-powered Packers team right now. It looks like they might score a TD soon... And... they did!

I can't get over that 50-yard run by Mendenhal, and the fact that the Steelers' defense held the Falcons' star running back to just 42 yards! It doesn't look like they held Atlanta's offense to under 300 yards tho... Oh well, at least they won...

Someone's going to have to explain the ending of that Detroit/Chicago game to me. How exactly was that not a touchdown? The Lions have enough trouble with the other team, now they have to play against the refs as well?

And I'm not a Lions fan or anything - I was actually pulling for the Bears in that one. But they got robbed.

Good to the see the Jaguars win one, though not good to see all the empty seats - how long is it going to be before the team is relocated?

Correction - Colts got beat.

YES!    Now if we can add the Cowboys to that category, it'll make the day so much better.

Even though Tebow in my opinion is not a starting NFL QB they should of gotten him to get people in those seats. They treat that guy like a freaking god in North Florida. From a business perspective they messed up big time with that. However, if Tebow was to start I'm pretty sure the way he plays, he would be in the hospital by the end of the first quarter.

Florida in general is a horrible sports state except for college sports. Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville all have black outs. Very sad. When the super bowl was held in Jacksonville it barely made a profit. That should tell you something about Jacksonville.

Garrard is a better QB than Tebow, so he belongs in the starter's spot. If you're making your team decisions based on who is popular with the fans rather than who will give you the best shot to win, you're a failed franchise. Win, and the fans will follow. And if they don't, go somewhere where they will.

5 straight years of TV blackouts. Its time to start trying new things and getting a player that the locals have followed since he was a freshman at Florida is the way to go even if he wouldn't start ever game. Jacksonville could of adapted to a wild cat offense and used Tebow.. You first gotta make money to win in the NFL. Your not gonna be able to pay players to come with nobody going to the games. Its a horrible football city. Never understood how they ever got a team. I have no love lose for them.

I just saw the replay of that play, and wow! I would be outraged too! If that wasn't a touchdown, then no reception in the endzone was/is a touchdown! Detroit certainly got robbed...

No argument there - I'll support them because I'm originally from the city, and I've been a fan from Day 1 (and I was alive for Day 1), and I'll be sad to see them move, but it's the right thing to do. LA is calling out to them.

The Giants lost to the Pats, Packers, and Cowboys (twice) in the regular season and yet beat them in the playoffs and Super Bowl. So don't laugh too hard or count the Vikings out just yet.

Anyhow:

Giants tried their hardest to lose bit thankfully Carolina tried harder. 9 turnovers in that game I believe. Giants are off to 1-0 start.

Bengals forgot to show up for the first half against the Patriots and went into halftime down 24-3. They did show up and play well in the second half, outscoring the Pats 21-14. The defecit from the first half was too great to overcome but I hope the Bengals learn from it and build from that second half today.

I guess the same could be said about the Eagles tonight as well. They came up a TD short of beating Green Bay and had to play catch-up most of the game.

That's a shame about Cincinnati losing like that; I really cannot stand New England. I think the Steelers play host to them later this season, too. I hope they'll be ready for them. So much for all the talk about Tom Brady looking like an old timer.

Wow, what a fitting ending to a terribly played game by the Cowboys. I'd bet my life that Alex Barron has to find his own transportation back to Dallas.

Unreal.
