Vancouver and Seattle it's likely to be raining. Probably mid-60s as highs, low 50s or high 40s as the overnight low. Depends on where you're going in Alaska, but if it's south east (Juneau, Sitka etc) it'll be raining. Up in Anchorage it might be pouring, windy etc etc and chilly.

SF can be either really warm (I've been there in October and it's been 85 degrees in the city) or cold and drizzly/overcast.

Well if you go far north, it's cold

And for Sitka:

Sitka has similar weather to KTN, JNU, and WRG and PSG.

Look above for the average temps. Sitka has similar weather to Juneau.

I was on a similar cruise last year. We left Seattle and stopped in Juneau, Sitka, Glacier Bay, Ketchikan, and Victoria. It was about 15C and sun when we left Seattle. We hit a storm during the night and I was in bed from being sea sick. Juneau was rainy and about 10C. Glacier Bay was about 5C and sun. Sitka was about 10C and sun and Ketchikan was about 5C and rain. I mean RAIN!!! Victoria and Seattle were clear. We were in Victoria in the evening. But, like in Portland, weather there is so unpredictable. In August 1992, I was in Juneau for six and it rained all but three hours.

As far as San Francisco, it has been unseasonably cool here all year. We had three "warm" days so I would not count on that, either.

We took an Alaska cruise last year this current week. The weather was warmer and clearer than back home in Dallas. We only had one day of light patchy rain and clear skies for six days.

Understand if you are taking a cruise - you are going to the panhandle of Alaska - by the sea - and not central Alaska. It will be damp but warmer than mainland Alaska. But the weather varies greatly and can change completely in a couple hours.

We carried a heavy coat, a medium coat and a light coat. For our trip the light coat was fine. The only time we wore the heavy coats was at night looking at the northern lights from the top deck, and for one excusion to watch whales.

Today Ketchikan had a high of 18 and a low at night of 9 C. Juneau was about 1 or 2 degrees C colder. Those high temps are 4-5 degrees C higher than normal. The low is about normal.

You should dress in several warm layers for any shore excusions/ trips - especially for longer ones. You can always take off a sweater or heavy shirt. It is hard to get warmer if you do not have the clothes with you. Take WARM gloves with you. Keeping your fingers from cold makes a big difference. A warm cap can also be very good. I'm bald on top - so I need to keep the warmth in.

You can spend the whole time on the ship in shirt sleeves, or a very light jacket.

The coldest was when the ship was very close to the face of the Hubbard Galcier, but it did not 'feel' cold because of the bright sun.

We did take a whale watching boat trip out of Juneau - which was great. That was COLD - being that low down on the water. Inside the boat was nice, but you could not smell the whales or feel the spray of their blow inside.

THis summer has turned out to be a cooler and rainier summer than what would be considered average. In fact, according to the American Meterological Society-Oregon Chapter, Portland experienced the coolest summer in 17 years (http://is.gd/fb6Af). Portland and Seattle weather are frequently very similar, as both are situated west of the Cascade Range at similar elevations within the Puget-Willamette lowlands. Vancouver is slightly wetter than Portland and Seattle with the average temperature a degree or two cooler than Seattle. Around the time of your cruise, you might want to check out these weather forecast pages (and bookmark these for reference):

For Seattle, WA: http://is.gd/fb700 -- Links to US National Weather Service (NWS)

For Vancouver, BC: http://is.gd/fb71Q -- Links to Environment Canada

For Ketchican, AK: http://is.gd/fb77o -- Links to NWS

For Juneau, AK: http://is.gd/fb7dw -- Links to NWS

For Skagway, AK: http://is.gd/fb7hF -- Links to NWS

I hope I have helped!
