I think it is for the viewers and wanting to be the first to catch the spectacular crash or live action, on camera first.
I am no fan of high-speed pursuits, as they present a life-threatening hazard to the public. Why would you chase someone down a busy interstate or city street, when you have an air-unit above that can track them at no risk to the public. There have been several civilians as well as LEOs killed because of these pursuits. A former Team member of mine, had one of his best friends killed when they were involved in a HS
pursuit, and his buddy tried to overtake him on the right in an attempted box at 90mph, and the target vehicle rammed him and he spun-out and struck a tree.
I had another buddy say, would you run through a crouded mall shooting at someone with a gun, so what is the difference in chasing someone at a high rate of speed through heavy traffic?
