Yahoo Mail Loading Slow

Mon Oct 11, 2010 2:26 am

My Yahoo mail seems to load very slow. It takes a minute or more. I try to keep the messeges under 300. I am one of those "Oh, I will forward this" and "that recipie sounds good. Maybe one day..." types, but I do try to keep it under 300. I try to have the minimum load on the e-mail front page; just the world head lines and no personal pic. What more can I do to have my Yahoo e-mail load faster?

If its anything like Gmail - which we use at work for email - having a IE window open with Gmail on it consumed 25% of the available memory on our work computers. It made everything load slow. On my home computer, with 16X the RAM of my work computer, things are a lot more manageable. I'd look into memory first. Trying a different browser 2nd.

What's your computer specs? What browser are you using? What kind of internet connection do you have?

For the record, it's probably not Yahoo. From what you've said, it sounds like a memory (RAM) problem.

Is just dumb   (I know, it's at work)

Tell me about it. Were stuck with ASP / Visual Studio apps that only work on IE.

Did ya get enough?

Quoting seb146 (Reply 4):
Comcast Xfinity cable.

Should be fast enough.

Try Firefox or Chrome, see how those work for you.

Ok... are we talking 2005 or 2000? Or are you still running off of 8-inch floppies?

I think 4MB? It was 2.5MB. I had to do some heavy searching for RAM for this thing.

Wow! There is a blast from the past! It does have one 3 1/2 drive but it is never used. I use USB sticks which I can access very quickly. Most web sites load quickly, too. It is just Yahoo Mail main page, after I sign in. Rarely, my inbox does not even load completely and I get a messege in the lower pane saying the messege failed to load if there are attachements or not. The actual case of the computer is Compaq Presario S5100NX with Intel Celeron.

Dang - I have close to 100 times that many. I think I need to spend some quality tme cleaning them out. Or just a mass delete in regret it later.

4GB should be plenty for yahoo mail. Even 2GB is.

Was it working faster before, or has it always been slow?

I have been thinking about doing that too. I mean, how often do I go back and look at the oldest e-mails? Never! I should just mass delete....

It just started running slow lately. Like within the last few months. It was okay when I first got the new RAM.

Well, not sure what is making it slow. Could be any number of things, especially browser toolbars, anti-virus that is trying to scan email in yahoo via the browser (those always suck), etc.

Just for grins, though, try deleting your cache. Not totally unheard of that a corrupted cache file slows a site down. Here's how:

Click tools -> Internet Options
Click "Delete" in the "Browsing History" area. In the pop-up window, make sure "Temporary Internet Files" is selected. Anything else might cause you to be logged out of everything online and not have your browsing history anymore - but if you're OK with that, select Cookies and History, as well.
The above post is my opinion. Don't like it? Don't read it.
