Royal Mail Never Deliver

Fri Oct 15, 2010 12:01 pm

12:05 the Leaflet says he came to drop of a signed for Packet...I sat down in the front room in front of a widescreen TV Visible from outside, with my Lunch at 12:00 So how on earth I could miss a knock on the door or window is beyond me.

It's happened before and reminded me of the program with the same Title, where they leave all the packages at the depot on purpose and say they missed you.

Just wanted to share the annoyance

We have a mailbox at the street. If we get a package that is too big to fit in the mailbox, the letter carrier will bring it the door and hand deliver. However, any other mail letters, newspaper, etc we received that day is always put in our mailbox?

Too make things ever worse, one of our letter carriers has been arrested for sealing peoples identity. She tried to use my credit card to charge $2000 worth of gift cards at Target. Hit about fifty other people on here mail route.

By the way, when I lived in the UK I found there mail system excellent. If you mailed a letter by closing time at any post office it would be delivered anywhere in the UK the next day.

Yep that's the best bit that, but they need to rethink big parcels, basically the documentary said, workers are made to carry too much heavy items and have to walk at a pace that even a Marine couldn't do in that Round (They took a Marine and made him do it) and he was out of breathe or couldn't do it in the time at least.

I can't speak for the Royal Mail, but the US mail has no accountability when it delivers parcels. For instance if you have a box that needs a delivery signature (especially at a residence) the delivery person 99% of the time will not get a signature simply because there is no recourse for not following protocol.

It doesn't surprise me they are losing what $2billion a year... Is Royal Mail doing badly too?

As an experimament, I sent a letter to myself when I visited Edmonton, Canada in 2001. It took fully two weeks for the letter to arrive in San Francisco.

In 1996 I was in Chicago on President's Day. I dropped a letter in a mailbox on Wabash Avenue. Since it was Prez's Day, the letter would of course only be picked up by the mailman on Tuesday. It arrived in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Canada Post did not impress me. USPS rocks.

Haven't used Royal Mail though. I like that it's Royal, though (we Americans are easily impressed by that crap).

Although I am a big fan of the Royal Mail compared to many if not most European equivalents, I often had the same experience when living in the UK. I would be expecting a package and knowing that it should arrive on a specific day I would be up early having breakfast while paying attention to the door. From one moment to the other I would just look at the door and I would see the RM piece of paper thrown under the door. I think most of them wouldn't even bother to knock.

Deutsche Post seems decent. When I lived in Costa Rica, Correos de Costa Rica (which used to be known as Cortel) was hit and miss, especially since because of a lacking postal system, if you wanted to order something from abroad, you either depend on having a mailbox in Miami, or have it delivered through other means (e.g. UPS, DHL, FedEx).

Speaking of which, since I've been back in Hamburg, I have not seen anything at all from FedEx on the street. UPS is here, but even though I remember having seen FedEx in the past in Hamburg, I have not seen them at all since I came back in February.

I live and was born in the UK, albeit I haven't been on this earth long, but every time i order something or a packages/letter comes by Royal Mail it always arrives very quickly , within the times they say e.g. First class - 1-2 days and they do deliver. But the other day i order some new trousers for a suit and we asked for it to be dropped at are neighbours if we were out but they still didn't deliver and it got returned to M&S

Yeah i like the "Royal" part and it shouldn't be privatised

but in perspective the sale would stop these sort of things. I just hope they don't change the name or too much of the company, it should be the one British institution remained in British ownership......Just my opinion

It will be interesting to watch new Royal Mail CEO Moya Green put her stamp on the Royal Mail. She set Canada Post on the road to "Postal Transformation" then left for the Royal Mail before the full effects of PT come into play at Canada Post. Only time will tell how it will affect business.

Up here in the real north of the UK, the Royal Mail "posties" will often sneakily drop the "You were not in" card through the door and scarper. It seems they would rather do that than haul your parcel with them along their route.

I've experienced the same situation as fca767. I was home, deliberately listening for the door to knock or ring, but low and behold I found a "you were not in" card on my door mat. Annoyingly this was on a friday and the local distribution centre does not open at the weekend and guess where the card said I could pick my package up from? Yup, the local centre.

I needed the contents of that package for the weekend!
