Original HA 5-0 Series Dano (James MacArthur) Dies

Thu Oct 28, 2010 5:40 pm

For those who mention that celebrity deaths occur in 3s; meet number 3 (following Barbara Billingsley and Tom Bosley)... James MacArthur aka Danny (Dano or Danno) Williams from the original Hawaii Five-0.

http://news.bostonherald.com/track/c...e-0_dies/srvc=home&position=recent

Exerpt:

LOS ANGELES — Actor James MacArthur, who played "Dano" in the original version of television’s "Hawaii Five-0" and was the son of actress Helen Hayes and playwright Charles MacArthur, has died at age 72.

So much for him making a cameo on the new series.

Is any of regular cast member of the original series (Ben, Duke) still alive?

A celebrity death posted on here that I'm actually sad to read about. Favorite James MacArthur film - Swiss Family Robinson. Runner up (in a supporting role) would be Battle of the Bulge.

He also played a preacher in the 1968 film, Hang 'Em High starring Clint Eastwood; another Leonard Freeman (who developed the original Five-0 series) production.

Great movie, particularly the booby trap scenes.

We'll miss you, Danno!

I read somewhere on Yahoo entertainment (I think) that he was the last surviving member of the Original Hawaii 5-O.

See you and the rest of the squad on the other side Danno!

At the start of the new 5-0 last night on CBS, there was a brief tribute to Mr. MacArthur, dsecribed as "the Original Dan-O." Nice touch. R.I.P.

I must've just missed it, because I changed the station (to CBS) about a minute into the start of the show. I'll check it out on CBS' website.

My favorite James MacArthur line comes from "The Battle of the Bulge" war epic:
" Does the road to Ambleve still lead to Malmedy?"
I've got Titanic hopes and they aren't sinking
