Remembrance Day 2010

Thu Nov 11, 2010 4:48 pm

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

lest we forget.

I will be going for my annual walk through Brookside Cemetery Field of Honour later today. It is Canada's largest memorial site to veterans, it includes those such as the soldier that had the bear that led to Winnie the
Pooh as well as Sgt. Tommy Prince, Canada's most decorated aboriginal veteran. These two, of course, lay among more than 12000 other brave men and women that while they may not have the mystique about them, sacrificed all the same and deserve to be remembered.

My father (8/1/1921-6/13/2003) was the anti-submarine warfare officer aboard USS CONNOLLY (DE-306). Saw action at Iwo-Jima and Midway, as well as other skirmishes.

Thanks, Dad. It'd be a very different world today without men like you.
