Chicago Cubs Legend, Ron Santo, Dead At 70

Fri Dec 03, 2010 6:23 pm

Ron Santo's death, today, at age 70, will certainly stir up the debate on why he is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

With numbers like his and his career, why ISN'T he?

Santo was a great third baseman.I agree with most that he should have been in HOF a long time ago.I had the pleasure of seeing Santo play at Dodger Stadium.I remember Ferguson Jenkins was on the mound. And Ernie Banks. It's been so long that I don't remember the outcome.

R.I.P. Ron Santo.

It just seems to me that Santo has been held back because a contemporary of his, in the AL, Brookes Robinson, is in. Robinson may have been better defensively (maybe) but their numbers are comparable but Santo did his in 15 years and Robinson 23.

Sad to see a great player go. But, on the plus side, the Cubs' radio broadcast just improved exponentially.

Well, they can't exactly use the excuse of holding him out because he hasn't been on a playoff or WS winning team. After all, his teamates, Banks, Jenkins and Williams are all in the hall and later on, Sandberg made it in.
