Reid Introduces Spending Bill 2010

Wed Dec 15, 2010 9:16 pm

Apparently Reid, et al, didn't get the message in November. He, and his pals, have introduced a ~2000 page spending bill (that's 2000 pages drafted in relative secret) that is laden with earmarks. It was introduced just a few days before the government would be forced to 'shutdown' if it isn't passed.

What needs to happen is a continuing resolution at current spending levels until the new congress is seated.

Why is Reid, and his counterpart Pelosi, trying to ram so much unpopular crap through during a lame duck session? Because they know they've lost and will not have this chance again. The 111th Congress needs to take an extended Christmas break and put itself to rest. Let the 112th do its job, rather than force it to spend the first part of its session trying to undo even more of the mess left by the 111th.

"Yet the legislation includes provisions requested this year by McConnell, including $650,000 for a genetic technology center at the University of Kentucky, according to an analysis of the bill by Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog. "

"But McConnell, like other new earmark opponents, stopped short of asking for his projects to be removed from the bill. "
Now you're really flying

They are having to do this since they failed, even though under the Constitution it is their responsibility, to get a budget together over the past year. Simply ridiculous.

They all failed, but given that in the Senate the majority leader decides what comes to the floor, and in the committees the chairperson decides what gets done and when, who would you say failed most?

I can agree with your first part, but now to try and assign the degree of failure, not so good an idea. Let us leave it at they all failed. We will all be better off, if we can admit, they are all bums, maybe we are learning something. They are the problem, not us, all of them.

I don't have time to check YOUR facts, but I believe you are talking about the Obama Tax Compromise not the Omnibus Spending Bill. This bill has not hit the floor yet. But, Reid wants a vote on it ASAP.

I've already written Leader McConnell (one of my Senators) and asked him to keep this thing from coming to a vote and to support the earmark ban.

You are correct, wrong thread. I am glad you pointed that out. It was the tax compromise.
