Today's Mail From Jacksonville

Tue Dec 21, 2010 4:36 am

Well I mailed my credit card payment at the USPS's Jacksonville Air Mail Center at the Jacksonille airport just before 1:00pm today, right after my flight got in.

Do you think it will make it to Sioux Falls by Christmas Eve?

I wonder if it hops straight onto a plane from the air mail center, or if it first gets trucked into the big sorting center downtown.

Which doesn't seem like it would make very much sense.

Which is why I'm furthermore worried it's what the Postal Service is planning to do...

Why don't you pay your credit card bill online? I, along with most others have been doing that for years just to avoid problems like you're describing. I've never had a problem with it. Or maybe you could make a payment over the phone? I did that before I got a computer and went online.

That is unless you're uncomfortable giving out your bank account info online, or over the phone.

Online bill pay is the way to go!! I have all my bills listed in my banks "secure" website (Mortgage, Credit Cards, Utilities, etc). I log in once a month, put in the amounts and the day I want the payment made, hit submit, and wola, all my bills are paid for the month and I don't have to worry about things getting lost in the mail or even writing checks. Whole process takes less than 5 minutes.

Absolutely agree with the online banking. I personally don't do those "one website pays all bills" deals--I pay each bill individually, but that's just me. I feel like I keep a better grip on things that way.

If money's tight, you could always just pay the minimum amount due online. That way the card people have something in case your payment doesn't make it there on time. If the payment in the mail covers your balance in full, I'm pretty sure most credit cards will just credit you the overpayment on your next statement (mine does).

Ahem.

The question. Was. Do you believe a bill payment mailed from the Jacksonville airport post office will be delivered in Sioux Falls by December 24th?

The question was not "Could everyone please discuss whether Airstud should pay his bills online?" The question was not "Is online bill pay the way to go?"

The question instead concerns the single journey of a piece of mail from Jacksonville, Florida to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

I mailed my 'lectric bill payment from Palm Beach on 12/15 and my bank paid the check on 12/20, the exact due date, so that is totally exciting. I am interested in hearing whether people here think my Sioux Falls gambit is going to turn out OK for me.

Also it seems maybe no one here knows whether the mail at the airport post office goes straight onto the proper plane or whether it gets trucked into town for sortage.

Two days from JAX to FSD!!

Not bad, USPS!!

I did not say anyone was being critical!!

I was merely clarifying that I had asked a question about postal operations.

I think the way mail moves around the country, nay the world, is keeeewwllllll
