Where Are You Going This Summer?

Sun Dec 26, 2010 2:13 am

I was about to post this thread on the Travel and Polls section, but it doesn't really have to involve taking a flight or doing something aviation related...

So, where are you guys going this summer?

My family's going to Denver, from Denver, we're going on a 7-Day Bus Tour to Yellowstone Natl. Park, Mt. Rushmore, Jackson Hole, Arches Ntl. Park, Salt Lake City and a bunch of other national parks. The Bus Tour is $448.00 for 7Days, 6 Nights with Hotel accommodations. It's buy 2 take 1, so I'm free, so we only paid $896.00. Our flight from LGA to DEN was only $137 (the regular price for our specific flight was $447.00) We used up 10,000 Miles from our UA Mileage Plus account which we racked up last summer. So we saved $310/ person, $930 for the three of us!

So our 7 Day, 6 Nights, 6 States, Yellowstone, Mt.Rushmore, etc Vacation costs $1,581.00 for the three of us. ($527/person)

We were supposed to go to Europe this summer, but I suggested that we should go in 2012 to see the Olympics in London on top of the planned Italy, France, Scandinavia, etc. And my mom needed to save more money since we spent more than $11,000 last summer on our 2 months Asia vacation, so we're going on a "small" summer vacation this year.
It's a cultural thing.

This summer? Hmmm, I'll probably go to work and go move to whatever grad school I get to, then go to work again. I like going to those places as well.

Planning on touring Southern California, for 3 weeks.(Never been beforehand don't know whether to have the wild card with 3 young kids).

As a back up plan in case it doesn't come off, sunny Florida.(been several times before and love the state).

Well, since it is summer here already, I'm planning to go to Vancouver in late January, for a week and a half before school resumes in February. I'm flying NZ via AKL, and I'll be spending a few days there as well.

Going to the Azores, visiting the islands of Terceira and Sao Miguel.

I lived at Lajes Field on Terceira from 1973-1977, and visited all nine islands while I was there. I have always wanted to go back for a visit. I finally decided that next summer it will happen.

If I have enough money, then I would like to go on an interrail trip, visiting the following countries:
Croatia- Bosnia- Greece- Italy-Spain-France. And some other countries on the way   I would go for 4 weeks, with my backpack and my tent, and, of course, my camera. Meet some new people, see different countries and cultures and have fun.

Most likely I won't have enough money, so I would like to go to Denmark by bike, also with my tent and camera. Maybe for a week, or two.

Very, very cool. I've heard that Turkmenistan are hoping to finally 'kill' the Derweze fire pit, and would love to get there before it happens. Ironically it's probably too expensive for me to manage it... but I may give it a go. Are you planning on visiting the Aral Sea area? That's also on my list of 'must see' (pun not intended) destinations.

If the wife and I can get our vacation weeks to line up correctly, we're heading off to Myrtle Beach for a week with the kid. We last went back before we got married, so this will be our first real vacation since then. It will probably also be our last one for a while, too.

I have no idea at the moment, probably a week or two in the mediterranean, depending on what my boyfriend and I can afford. It also depends what staff discount I'm entitled to with a company I'm going for an interview with on Thursday.

Hershey PA. Possibly Ocean City MD. We stick to places within driving range, since flying is such a nightmare nowadays. I will have to fly in June. My sister-in-law is getting married in Pittsburgh and that is one long ride from where I am. 9+ hours in the car with a three year-old can be really tedious. I'd like to visit the AF Museum at Wright-Pat. but that is low on the list of priorities.

After two years with expensive holidays (Washington DC & Moscow), next year's holiday will be on a more modest budget. I would like to visit Zurich for the WEF and perhaps a long weekend Madrid or Prague for the summer holiday.

Home studying summer self-courses. Small chance I get to go to Buzios with an uncle, to join the masses of Argentines that turn that region of Bahia Brazil into the Amazon version of Buenos Aires in January and February. Which is why I am not 100% into the idea...

I myself will be in Lebanon every 5-6 weeks over the Summer all being well. Probably hitting some of the cool beach clubs and maybe taking to the mountains to get away from the fierce heat.

It's already summer here, as mentioned above by another southern hemispherite. I have three weeks of leave coming up in January and I intend to spend that time lazing about in various parks and gardens and neighbourhoods and cafes of my home city, with a short trip interstate to Sydney to catch a concert at the Opera House later in the month. If I can find the energy to do so, I may also take a road trip or two out along the wonderful Great Ocean Road.

I will be going to Germany in August for Wacken Open Air 2011. We'll probably be staying in Amsterdam for the first day then make our way up to Hamburg by train or flying, then up to Wacken. It will be my second time going, I went this year and had the greatest time of my life. I also want to go to another festival, I've been thinking about Brutal Assault or Party San. Party San has a much better line up, but it all depends on money.

Malawi for 3 weeks in July!!!   Most probably ET via ADD.

And then hopefully 9 days in Portugal at the end of August - the new LCY-FAO route on an Embraer 190 is very tempting (although the BA sale at the moment is offering Faro in J class for £350 return!) so I'm not sure yet!

Awesome, I went twice on business. Take a river safari on the Shire - those crocs are amazing. I flews VS to JNB and connected to QM - they have a baggage interline.

Parents are going to Barbados in March and asked us to join but the wife cant get time off work so debating whether to go on my own or not.

In April we're meeting the inlaws in Dallas then heading onto PHX and the Grand Canyon.

Road trip in July through the Okanagan and Rockies to Calgary - probably meet my parents there and drive back with them.

Did my first trip to BFI & PAE this past weekend and have to go back in sunshine! Doubt we will have time to get back to Europe this year.

I'm there now - it's summer in Australia and the temp is in the 30 only because it's in Celsius.

Also stopped in Fiji on the way down to break up the trip. Enjoyed that so much that the better half & I will do that again on the way home.

The only sad part is that the trip has just about cleaned me out of ff miles.

Another distorted itinerary, a big mileage earner, via FRA, IAD and KWI (Kuwait) with United.
Everything to satisfly my fancy... F1 cars, speed, airplanes and sunshine!

It will be Summer there, no doubt!

We are taking the caravan up to Scotland for a little over two weeks in May. Heading up to Oban, then on to Skye for the majority of the holiday, then coming back via Perth and north east England. Should be nice as the most I've seen of Scotland is Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Other than that, a few shorter breaks around the UK probably, we're saving up to go to Florida in a couple of years with out little boy

Had three weeks of vacation this year, but didn't know that until after the vacation bid was over and done with (thanks AC/IAMAW   ) else I would've space it out more.

Plans this year so far include:

- A week in New York in April, over my wife's birthday;
- A week's beach holiday in the sun in May, probably Ibiza, as it's the only holiday destination served from NWI on a Saturday;
- Christmas next year in South Africa with the in-laws;
- My brother-in-law got engaged just before Christmas, so their wedding will probably be in South Africa as well. Financially, I hope it's around Christmas or in early 2012...
- A short weekend break somewhere around our wedding anniversary in October.

Wonderful city, I can recommend you staying at Plantation Bay. They have their own giant lagoon and some hotel rooms have a direct access to the lagoon! Other than that, Hilton is also good.

And don't forget to visit the local malls, their quite large and overwhelming! SM City Cebu is the best one, they just built a new part called "the North Wing" which is mostly high class and expensive stores, check it out. I'm a big fan of Cebu myself, way better than Manila.

Which (German) cities raised your expectations that you come to this conclusion, and why? I have always liked it around here (that includes the area as well), but I would rank Munich higher after all.

If you include the area, then yes, things could be worse. Stuttgart itself might be a good city to live there but no so much for visitors. Besides, you have said "excellent", and something "excellent" is really difficult to top.

But since you are keen on knowing which (German) cities I like better than Stuttgart (note I avoid to mention "excellent"), well, here you go:
Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Freiburg, Bremen, Lübeck, Celle, Bad Tölz, Lüneburg, Potsdam, Lindau, Passau, Goslar, Baden-Baden, Dresden, Leipzig, Koblenz, Meersburg, Konstanz, Görlitz, Mölln.

Right out off the top of my head; there are probably more.
