What's The View From Your Window?

Sat Jan 08, 2011 5:15 am

Well, it's a fairly clear day here so I'll go first. The North and East are the views I get sitting here at my computer desk.

So what's up with the "Paintballing" Newmarket?

And does someone really take horses across your street?

And what's up with parking on the grass?

Not a clue, someone's clearly put that in error!

Quoting Revelation (Reply 17):

Yes, the town (Newmarket) is the UK centre for horseracing, national HQ of the Jockey Club and home of the National Stud and loads of stables. They have horse paths all over town between stables and training runs

Quoting Revelation (Reply 17):
And what's up with parking on the grass?

The company doens't have enough parking for everyone, so they paid for a green plastic mesh to be laid on the grass to enable parking on it without damaging it.

Here's my view in snowy Rochester, NY:

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7462/dscn8782.jpg

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/3470/dscn8783.jpg

The first shot shows the other end of my dorm building and the top of Danforth Dining Center; you can also just make out Slater Hall of the Hill Court (a.k.a. "Phase") residency complex on the left. The second one shows more of Danforth and a little bit of Wilder Tower, as well as the bridge to Phase. The last one shows the Towers residence complex, with Anderson on the left and Wilder on the right, and the Sage Art Center in the foreground.

Normally in that last view, you'd be able to see the city skyline. At night, there's a very bright white strobe on an antenna on or near the top of one of the buildings, so I'll try and get a photo with the strobe if I remember later since you can't see any of the city at the moment.

Here's my view on a nice fall evening:

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/1189/192792001.jpg

And here's a picture of the sunrise at 6:30 AM the day before that last one was taken:

Great thread! Here are some photos I just took after lunch in Shanghai. They are from the office, which is located in Puxi, on the eastern fringe of the French Concession

Shanghai - View towards People's Park

View north towards People Park

Shanghai - View towards The Bund and Pudong

View east towards The Bund and Pudong. You can see the tip of the Oriental Pearl Tower

Shanghai - View towards Xintiandi

View southwest towards Xintiandi, which is mainly (bad) restaurants and (dodgy) bars frequented by tourists

Cheers

Here is one more. This is the view that greeted me every morning when I first moved to Shanghai a year ago. You can clearly see People's Park, Raffles City, The Bund (you can't really see it per se), and Pudong

The town is called Bad Tölz which is located an hour drive south of downtown Munich. Write "Bad Toelz" if you want to google-earth for it. ("Bad" in a sense of bath or spa, btw)
You don't necessarily need to put it on your to-do list, but if you happen to be in Munich and have half a day to spare, Toelz is well worth visiting, and the Isar Valley can actually compete with Norway.

I built a website on Virtual Tourist introducing this ueber-Bavarian town.

The market's great for fruit & veg & cheap meat as well. Went into work early on Christmas eve so I could load up on meat for the family Christmas barbeque, much cheaper & better quality than the supermarkets.

My office is moving to Docklands next year, will miss being able to take a quick walk over for lunch.

Moved to Sydney a few months ago from the UK, so left this...

for

Manly (we stayed there for two months whilst our stuff was shipped out)

After that, we moved nearer to North Sydney and the CBD. Through the trees behind our back yard, you can see the buildings in the CBD.

There's a nature reserve a few minutes walk from the house which is one of the places nearby that gives amazing views over the water.

I do still miss the beach a bit though, but am loving living in Sydney.
