Egypt Votes In Constitutional Referendum

Sat Mar 19, 2011 4:35 pm

Today, millions of Egyptians went out to vote for or against a proposed set of constitutional amendments. What is significant is that this is by far the largest turnout ever seen in any Arab country-and significantly, this is a free vote. Prior to the 25th January Revolution, voting was difficult-apart from the electoral fraud the regime also had obstacles in place to discourage people from voting. Today, practically everyone I know went to vote.

It was extremely crowded-the infrastructure in place could not cope with all these people. I expect facilities will be expanded in time for the upcoming elections.

Congratulations, but no use hiding the sun with your finger (this is a general comment and not addressed to Directorguy), it was proven that the Salafists and MB were out in force, even braking the law of no advertising Friday and Saturday in an effort to influence the voters. My fears are growing more intense i am afraid. Also i saw no comment about what happened to Dr. Albaradei when he was forced out when he tried to vote. Who was behind this action?

My prediction as soon as the protests started was that this was going to wind up being another repressive Islamic theocratic dictatorship.

I give then six months.

Until the word "Muslim" is banished from ME politics, there will be no freedom. Religion (doesn't matter which one) NEVER leads to a stable democracy.
