Apple 2nd Qtr Explodes

Thu Apr 21, 2011 3:00 am

Apple announced their 2nd Quarter Results, which basically blew away expectations.

Sales increased 83% over Last Year.

Net profit increased 95% over Last Year.

EPS increased 92% over Last Year.

iPhone sales increased 113% over Last Year.

iPhone revenues increased 126% over Last Year.

Mac sales increased 28% over Last Year, when the industry contracted 3%

Rertail store sales grew 90% over Last Year.

http://www.macworld.com/article/1593...011/04/apple_2q_earnings_2011.html

While some people don't like Apple products (or the company) these results are pretty impressive, especially in difficult economic times.

The company's intense focus on design (software and hardware) as well as their willingness to continue R&D during very tough economic times are huge factors, especially when you consider that they focus a lot on the consumer market and not the huge corporate market.

Unreal. They'll surpass $100B in revenue next year. In terms of aviation they're coming closer to being the size of Boeing and EADS combined with 4X the net income and zero "subsidies" or tax breaks. The more you think about it and where they were just 12 years ago it kind of goes from "unreal" to absolutely incredible.

It's not surprising at all. Recently I read an article on TechCrunch that said iPad's customer satisfaction rate is 95%. It's really hard to impress 95% of customers. The author of article also said that even if he employs strippers to please certain amount of people it would be hard to get 95% satisfaction rate. LOL. So Apple is clearly doing a great job to set a trend with all of it's products. Who thought about tablets before iPad? Now each and every company is coming out with tablets. Apple is leading the industry and rest are just followers.

I've been saying this for years, when Apple needs cash injections, they roll out an Ipad3, iPhone5, or that silly notebook that is the size of a piece of paper.

Brazil for one seems to be in the pipeline:

China would make a lot of sense as well.

when Apple needs cash injections,

With around $65 Billion in FREE cash (no debt) Apple doesn't really need cash injections.  Wow!

The approach of building a cash holding free of debt is one of the key parts of Steve Jobs long term planning and it is paying off in spades. It allowed Apple to maintain it's momentum during the Great Recession (including R&D expenditures), bring the iPad to market and pre-pay for $3.9 Billion in components.

With the tragedy in Japan it also provides Apple with the ability to support their component suppliers there and they have indicated that they are going to stand behind those suppliers.

BTW, the MacBook Air is one of their hot sellers these days. My wife has an older model and loves it - far easier to carry than a full size notebook and does all she wants. Oh, and it's generating solid gross margins for Apple.

Pretty much everybody in the business, including Microsoft (with several futile attempts!).

Apple is just the first manufacturer to actually make one that satisfies its buyers in substantial numbers.

I am getting the next generation of that silly notebook. People may say what they want to say, but Apple provides an experience that other companies dont seem capable of offering. It is a combination of many factors. And added to that, their products are extremely aesthetically pleasing, and well built generally.

Like what? Apple have a cunning business strategy..produce ridiculously overpriced, inferior products, get all the Apple sheep to buy them, then BAM..make a slightly better version of the same thing and sell it to the same people for loads more! Just because their products are all shiny on the outside (even though they use the same shit other computer manufacturers use on the inside) doesn't justify the crazy prices.

Okay I get that Apple is so proud of its design and that it is very unique, but that doesn't justify charging for their products with at least a 200% profit margin. They even charge for Microsoft Office for Mac more than what Microsoft is charging for it!

Just did a simple calculation - in order to have the same specs for the new MacBook Pro as the Dell XPS15..I'll have to pay an extra $2421!! (A$1700 for the Dell vs A$4121 for the mac).

Dude, seriously now. Why are you on this jihad against Apple? You state opinions as if they are facts. Clearly the majority of the world do not believe Apple products are inferior. I bet you have no idea for how many people the iPad was their first Apple purchase. Sheep? No. They just aren't on your jihad.

You really need to get over your hate of fanboys. You hate them so much that it clouds your view of any virtue Apple products may have.

No, Apple has the most intelligent business plan of any US computer maker, and the numbers show it.

Apple has long passed the PC competition in customer satisfaction.

And the smart phone competition.

And not the tablet competition.

Beats the hell out of them in customer service ratings.

That should be their first clue.

Apple is also very focused on the consumer, leaving the thin margin enterprise sector to PC OEMs who follow MS like lemmings. Costs a bit more to maintain your own OS, but then you're not a MS lemming.

Apple currently has a Gross Margin of around 40%, not 200%. Part of that solid number comes from software, which has a lower cost of goods sold than hardware does. Part comes from volume purchases. Part comes from internally designing some components, part rom pre-paying for components, which is called anticipation discounts in some industries.

And customers around the world have responded to Apple's focus on design, be it hardware or software. It is simply one more aspect that differentiates Apple. If customers did not appreciate it they would buy Dells.

Reality is that in the last quarter the Mac sales increased by around 28% while PC sales fell around 3%.

The customer is, in the end, the judge of the products of any company and Apple is spot on with their products and their pricing.

As a consumer, it´s what i feel when i hold a Macbook Air in my hands. As a current PC owner but previous Apple owner it is what I feel when I use my computer. Yesterday I went computer shopping and trust me, the Apple machines in the store stood way above the rest..
