Happy Easter

Sun Apr 24, 2011 3:53 pm

Surprised I haven't seen it yet:

Xristos Anesti, Kalos Pascha

Christ has Risen, Happy Easter

Today, the Eastern Church and the Western Church celebrate Easter together.
When seconds count...the police are minutes away.

Happy Easter

Thank you for the greeting.

I admit to ignorance as far as the two major branches, eastern and western Christianity, celebrating Easter on the same date.

I know that they celebrate Christmas on different dates and actually got to celebrate Christmas twice during a visit to Cairo a few years ago.

To all Anetters, whether you are believers or not, whether you are Christian, Jewish or Muslim, I wish you all the best and express the hope that we can all learn to live in peace.

I think in much of America, Easter is merely an excuse to eat more chocolate.

Happy Fat Day!

Yeah last year it was as well on the same date, this is rather unique that two years in a row Easter is celebrated on the same date throughout the world. I have never seen this before in my life as we usually celebrate twice (due to family mix with Eastern&Western). Next year Eastern Christianity will celebrate a week later than Western.

The difference between Western & Eastern is due to the calendar difference (Gregorian vs Julian).

Quote:
Accordingly, Gregorian Easter can fall on 35 possible dates—between March 22 and April 25 inclusive.[38] It last fell on March 22 in 1818, and will not do so again until 2285. It fell on March 23 in 2008, but will not do so again until 2160. Easter last fell on the latest possible date, April 25, in 1943 and will next fall on that date in 2038. However, it will fall on April 24, just one day before this latest possible date, in 2011. The cycle of Easter dates repeats after exactly 5,700,000 years, with April 19 being the most common date, happening 220,400 times or 3.9%, compared to the median for all dates of 189,525 times or 3.3%.

I am amazed by those figures. Given that Christ is alleged to have been crucified about 1974 years ago (depending on which supposed date of his birth and death occurred) it is fascinating to read about dates repeating themselves after 5,700,000 years. I am truly stunned that someone has devoted the time to this sort of arithmetic. It is also impressive that 13 days between different calandars can make such a difference when Easter has (due to non-christian influences) been traditionally based on lunar cycles.

Likewise. The whole arrangement sounds as if it was written as part of the script for Little Britain, "Look into my eyes".....

This year fell the same as Catholic Easter. I had to work sadly I would have loved to be in Greece. I called my family and they were having a BBQ outside and had been to the church. I miss Easter in Greece so much. Just not the same in Ireland or the UK. Although the Cadburys Easter Egg and the Lindt Bunny did soften the blow lol...

Anyway Happy Easter all.
