The Car For Which You Would Give It All.

Fri May 13, 2011 10:27 am

Please share with us what is your all time favourite car. I know this is a hard question and that ambivalence tends to become an issue in the selection process. However, please do your best to select *the one car* that leaves you daydreaming and that makes you wake up motivated thinking "Someday, it´ll be mine one way or the other."
Well, in my opinion there is not a car that has ever rolled its way through the roads of this earth that is as accomplished as the Mercedes S65 AMG. Generally speaking, I would say the S Klasse overall. However, I will be picky and go for the 65. First of all, driving this car is like driving no other V12 for it is buttery smooth in a way that you wouldn't imagine it can produce 620 hoursepower. Second, this car is without a doubt the most ergonomic car ever built. Every single one of its feautures is made neatly and effortlessly available to the driver and passengers. Third, it is a wildly beautiful car and I will let the pictures demonstrate that. Finally, have you heard the sound of that engine?

A Mercury Mariner, or it's cousin the Ford Escape. Preferably a hybrid version with today's gas prices. The Mariner isn't too big like an Escalade, but still good even on snowy or icy roads. Someone else can post a picture because I'm having some problems posting a picture of the Mariner.

S600 is no slouch. The twin-turbo V12 would take care of that. If I couldn't stretch to a Bentley I'd be very happy with an S600.

What exactly is wrong with having a luxury saloon as one's ideal dream car as opposed to a racing car? Give me a Mercedes-Benz S-class, or a Rolls-Royce Ghost, or a Bentley Mulsanne over a Ferrari or Porsche any day of the week.

Having said that, I'll admit that the 458 Italia is one fine looking car. Would I drive one? If I had the chance, yes, I'd love to. Would I buy one? Probably not. The impracticality of owning an exotic supercar is just not worth the hype, in my opinion. I'd rather have a dream car I can use everyday rather than just on track days. This thread is about one's dream car, not dream drive. For me, the answers to those questions would be different.

Then again, I turn 30 in less than two months. Maybe I'm just getting    ...

I chose the Continental GT because to me, that is the ultimate Grand Tourer. It has the legs to do long distances with ease and comfort, with the 6.0-litre twin turbo V12 quietly burbling away at the front, but has all the power it needs to get from 0-100km/h in about 4.5 seconds. I like a car that has a dual personality in the sense that while the occupants can be cocooned in relative comfort and quietness, with all the leather, wood and chrome I could want inside, it has a 'nasty' side and can turn on the power if it needs to.

I'll have to dig up the picture, which dates to about 1940, but it would be a one-off Aerodynamic Lagonda V12 for me. Possibly. It's hard to choose just one car, because there are so many that I love.

Other potential candidates would include a Voisin C28 (there are several variants there), Delage D8-120 Aerocoupe, Peugeot 402 D'arl mat, Bugatti T57S Corsica roadster or Galibier sedan, Delahaye 135M Figoni Paris show roadster...

For me it would not be a modern car. Modern cars are nice, but in four years your nice uber-fast Porsche will be superseded by something faster, your ultra-luxurious Merc will be superseded by something flashier and plusher and newer... Vintage cars have a more lasting, but far less practical, appeal.

I think we're twins! That car is classy and says everything. It has a very sophisticated and refined quality in addition to all the fancy stuff. You pretty much feel like you're in the cockpit if you're the driver. I can see why some might want a Ferrari but TBJ, you can really only drive it in Europe if you're going to reach it's full potential, which is the whole point of a Ferrari isn't it? The S65 is absolutely perfect for everywhere everytime...except maybe off road but I'm not into that.

None of the current crop of luxo-barges, wannabe supercars, supercars, hypercars excite me. In fact they rather bore me. And this is coming from someone who had posters of a Testarossa and a Countach on his bedroom wall as a kid.

Now what I would want if I ever got the winning Powerball numbers is a late 60s vintage Mercedes-Benz 280SL (the so-called pagoda roof models). Clean properly put together models go well past $50k these days.

Some great cars up here.

Though I must say I'm past that phase where I found teenager room poster cars desirable. Reality is slowly taking the upper hand over dreams as I get 'older' and more cynical.

Though the CLK-GTR up there made me think about that twice...

It doesn't look that good in person, really. Too bloated. Mostly diesel, and desperately FWD...  Wink

It's up for sale at a dealership in Lansdale, PA

A topless Crown Vic? Grooooooovy.

As for myself, I've recently gotten a somewhat unexplained fascination for old Beemers, particularly this breed:

And the best part is, I probably won't have to 'Give it all' (just nearly all) to get it.
So whoever owns my future E24 635csi, please take care of it, I'm coming for it soon!

I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

I've always had a soft spot for this one:

The Vector W2 - A 1980's concept car that barely made it to production but with a top speed of 242mph it's not too shabby.

Bentley Continental GT

Too heavy. Kind of like a fat 911. The Flying Spur is quite nice though.

Quoting sw733 (Reply 5):
That thing must be faster than a Veyron!

Nobody knows since it won't stay upright long enough to see.

Quoting Fly2HMO (Reply 9):
Get with the times dude:

Even better with a nice selection of items from the Novitec Rosso catalog. Some nice color matched wheels, aero package, lowered suspension, and maybe a carbon roof makes it that much better.

Quoting Fly2HMO (Reply 9):
Anyways, time to put a real car in this thread:

No kidding, but the Huayra is the Pagani on my shortlist.

Quoting Braniff747SP (Reply 10):
My submission: the Porsche 911 SPorts Classic. 250 made... it's a beautiful car.

Not bad, but the RS 4.0 is my pick. I think I could get by with a GT2 though.

Quoting CXfirst (Reply 28):
This is the car I would want!

Another great pick, but I think that the Huayra beats it on looks though.

Anyway, here are a few for my list that I don't think have been mentioned yet:
Ariel Atom V8 - needs no explanation
Brabus 800 E V12 "one of ten" - if Darth Vader had a car...
Caparo T1 - an F1 car for the street and they've gotten Gordon Murray to help.
Pagani Huayra

Ooooo, tough call. However, although there are many "runner ups", this would be my first choice.

Darth Vader, your car is ready.

Yep, the 4.0 is also on my "if I win the lottery list", but, my favorite is the Sports Classic. The new RS 4.0 is going to be the ultimte 911.... I'm waiting for the exact specs to come out.
The 747 will always be the TRUE queen of the skies!

I can't look at this car without thinking about the episode of "Top Gear" in which Jeremy Clarkson drove one around and keeps rolling it......

My ultimate car is old school and French. Anything from Facel Vega, with the Facel II being at the top of the list:

French luxury powered by a Chrysler 392 Hemi.......
