Mother of accused agressor defends her son as ''very clumsy''
''He is just very clumsy, he trips a lot when he gets excited''. This was the official explanation of the mother of the 17 year old accused of a physical agression against superstar Lionel Messi.
Silvia Van Donselaar stated she would like to apologize to Messi and his entire family for the incident.
"My son didn't want to do that'', said Van Donselaar in a state of shock to media reporters. ''Martin P.'', her son, attends the 5th year at the Colegio Latinoamericano in Rosario. ''When he saw him (Messi), he got excited and wanted to grab him, and because he is very clumsy, he tripped'', before stating her son is not a Barrabrava (Hooligan member), and he rarely goes to football matches.
Van Donselaar also added that her son is ''shocked'' about what happened and how the event has received coverage.
However, eyewitnesses claim that after the incident and as people present shouted things at the agressor, the teenager turned around and made obscene gestures.
Student now has police protection
Rosario Chief of Police, Hernan Brest, has decided that the supposed agressor of Lionel Messi needs taxpayer protection to prevent any possible backlash against his wellbeing for his presumed actions.
"We have determined this measure due to the online reports of a protest in front of the high school where this individual studies, as wel as comments by fans and hooligans of Newell's Old Boys, of ''countemeasures'' against him'', said Brest.
Messi meanwhile has not pressed charges thus the police cannot formally take action. Messi has said in a communique that he is "perfectly fine", and is astounded at the coverage this has received.
Guido Buccazotti, a local friend of the Messi family, has stated the family would like to ask the public to leave the teenager and his family alone, and that they consider the incident closed, even if others or the police do not.
