Yemen Protesters Burnt Alive While Sleeping

Sun Jun 05, 2011 9:14 am

This is terrifying!
....
Water cannons filled with gasoline sprayed tents where protesters were sleeping. Thousands of protesters were camping in the Square since February demanding Saleh’s immediate resignation. The tents were set ablaze and fleeing citizens shot by roof top snipers as they ran. Many were unable to escape the fires including the disabled and children as indicated by the photos below. The massive protest site was cleared after hours of carnage, with bulldozers scraping up the remains of tents and persons by the morning.

Egypt? Tunisia? Libya? How come this does not make the news?

If they think that Khadaffi is doing evil stuff to his own people how about those who are ruling Yemen?
It seems that the international community does not care much about it.

I think the major news outlets aren't reporting this because it didn't all happen like this.

The water cannons were water cannons (converting them to fire gasoline would be as dangerous for the operators as for the people being sprayed) and only 2 tents were set on fire by the police.

A Reuters photographer at the scene said police fired live ammunition, tear gas and used water cannons to disperse demonstrators protesting outside a municipal building to demand the release of a fellow protester who was arrested on Saturday.

The clashes took place near Freedom Square where thousands of anti-government protesters have been camping since January to demand Saleh's overthrow. Police set two tents on fire in the square. Protesters hurled Molotov bombs and rocks at police.

Certainly the Yemeni authorities are carrying out all manner of abuses against the population there, but I'm not sure that sensationalist reports like this are helping.

Quoting MadameConcorde (Thread starter):

Mainly because Western powers have supported this regime for a long time....
