What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Fri Jun 17, 2011 1:27 pm

Yikes, I can't believe the last time this was posted is such a long time ago. Since there are so many new users I don't know yet, I thought I would ask. Music does say a lot about a person.

So, for all those who are listening to music now, regardless of whether you're at home, work, the gym, in the tube, or on a flight... what is it!?

My playlist right this moment states: "Give Me Everything" by "Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer"

So infectious and the song's all about Ne-Yo!

As for myself, 'Bounce' by Calvin Harris feat. Kelis

Vittorio Monti’s Csárdás, played by Benedek Csík. It seems odd that one of the most famous Csárdás pieces was written by an Italian.

I was able to pick up a CD of music played by Benedek Csík during a repeat visit to Budapest in 2009 when I got to see him and his band play at the Búsuló Juhász.

The entire Sight No More album by Mumford & Sons.

Saw them live on Sunday... wish that concert never ended. Such amazing talent - and the lyrics aren't wishy washy dumb crap. Haven't heard a song by them yet that I don't like.
The above post is my opinion. Don't like it? Don't read it.

Four80East "Nocturnal". I like their mix of soul-, jazz, and funk. Basically two guys, Rob de Boer and Tony Grace from Toronto, plus session players.

Schoenberg (Verklärte Nacht, Op 4 (1943 version for string orchestra)) alas, I had thought it was RIchard Tognetti and the ACO giving their newly owned Strad another workout on Bach but tis Schoenberg. Should pay more attention! Then again, she just switched Berg for Brahms the previous piece by hitting the wrong track!

Try out Down to the Bone from Chicago. It's a progressive form of jazz, with a little soul thrown in from time to time. They have a session singer as well on a couple of tracks, and she's pretty good. I only have one CD , "Crazy Vibes and Things", and I really like it.

At the moment:

Alarm Will Sound's remix version of their acoustic recreation of Aphex Twin's "Cliffs"--it's pretty awesome. Electronic music recreated virtuosically on live percussion and other instruments and voices (insane breakbeats and all) and then, in this case, remixed and fragmented in the studio again.

Next up Akua Naru, "Tales of Men (feat. African Footprint)" --beautiful. I recommend it highly.

   He's an excellent cimbalom player.

Quoting Baroque (Reply 25):
Schoenberg (Verklärte Nacht, Op 4 (1943 version for string orchestra))

Most beautiful thing he wrote...before he lost the plot...

I am not usually a fan of hers, but the lyrics are brilliant, and after having seen the video I fell in love with the sond even more. Sort of reminds me of my weekly shananigans every Friday
