The Happy Songs Thread

Mon Jun 20, 2011 12:09 pm

I was thinking... I can't remember if we had this before.

Post a song that makes you happy and puts you in a good mood, a positive ubpeat spirit.

I will start with Bobby McFerrin's song
Don't worry be happy

Yes, I am an Air Supply geek, and "All out of love" has some of the best and happiest memories from my life. Like the time Russell Hitchcock gave me a high-five during that song at a concert.

As happy songs go, they all have to get in line behind this one:
Judy Garland- "Get Happy"

Quoting AGM100 (Reply 5):

Actually that song is by REM, with Kate Pierson of the B-52s helping out on vocals:

I'm gratified to see some verry nice songs indeed, few of which fail to make me smile.

A couple of my favourites to make me happy, one of them is a cover I personally prefer over the original.

Another happy song

Pennies from Heaven
Writer(s): Johnny Burke, Arthur Johnston

Every time it rains,it rains
Pennies from heaven
Don't you know each cloud contains
Pennies from heaven

You'll find your fortune's falling
All over the town
Be sure that your umbrella
Is upside down

Trade them for a package of
sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love,
You gotta have showers
So when you hear it thunder,
Don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven
For you and me

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things, not bad
Sing of happy, not sad.
Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things, not bad
Sing of happy, not sad.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple
To last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
for anyone else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.

Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple
To last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
for anyone else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.

Such an embarrassment!
Could he not check on royal dinner etiquette in the presence of the Queen -- he was the guest of honour -- or at least ask to be briefed on the matter?

Anyway... back to topic... another happy song!

Hello Dolly - Louiis Armstrong

I said hello, dolly,......well, hello, dolly
It's so nice to have you back where you belong
You're lookin' swell, dolly.......i can tell, dolly
You're still glowin'...you're still crowin'...you're still goin' strong
I feel that room swayin'......while the band's playin'
One of your old favourite songs from way back when
So..... take her wrap, fellas.......find her an empty lap, fellas
Dolly'll never go away again

Friend & Lover*- "Reach Out Of The Darkness"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Acdc_EhNOrI
*Original recording but not the original artists in the video. I've never seen a video of the group who recorded the song performing it, but I suspect they appeared on Hullaballoo, Shindig, The Tami Show, or Ed Sullivan at some point and a video of their performance will eventually be posted on YouTube. Until then, I'd rather watch a fairly good zombie-themed lip sync performance than a cheesy color-keyed computer animation as an accompaniment to a favorite song.

Well, it's not exactly a religious song after all...!
I simply refer you to the official video which further clarifies the idea:

Gotta love that song!
Had a brother and a sister who lived in Atlanta. And I loved going there. People from the south are so nice and friendly. I always felt welcome wherever I went.

Another good one is Gladys Knight & the Pipps - Midnight train to Georgia.

Hi!

I know I'm too old for this and I did start another thread but at the moment one song which puts me in a good mood is Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA". I'm sure I will get sick of it though. Also Mariah Carey "Loving you long time" which was in the Adam Sandler movie "You don't mess with the Zohan". That's definitely got a feel good riff in it.

As we seem to be going old, how about this one - Solomon Burke - Everybody Needs Somebody to Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OKAlBC-XWQ

Aviation related too, given he died in flight landing in AMS last year. The song itself (by his own admission) was a rip-off of his childhood church's entrance march! I've danced around a few times with both my kids to both this and Wilson Pickett's version (which is faster), but Burke's is still my fave.
