Where Have All The Snow Globes Gone?

Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:45 pm

Apparently the TSA has been collecting them and reselling for a profit amongst other things. Really bizarre but not surprising article in my local paper today.

My ex bought me a snowglobe for Valentines Day this year, it brought back memories of the snowglobe thread a while ago. How long ago was it since the thread brightened up the non-av forum?

Crikey, I didn't realise it was that long ago, I thought it was only a couple of years ago. How time flies by.

More than 6 years now, yet the snowglobe lives on...it's still a classic!

FLAIRPORT used to post on a forum I was a member of when I lived in Canada and complained of the way he was treated here, right until somebody re-posted the thread on the forum. At that point everybody knew he was crazy and started to treat him the same as he was treated here.

Why are the TSA allowed to sell people's property? Is there not some period where you can reclaim your forbidden items?

Because the TSA can do what the TSA wants, without much oversight from anyone. Not that that's the way it's set up to be, but it's the way things generally work....

I truly believe he still is among us. Probably masquerading as a couple of users who display extreme stupidity quite often. No troll is that epic.

Aaah, the good old days... Well, the number of whackball threads has certainly gone down since then, for better and for worse. I seem to remember epic threads by posters "iloveboi" (?) and "Shin-" something or other. But FLAIRPORT does take the cake, and does so wonderfully.

Cheers

At the price the TSA pays for them, $0.01 would bring a profit!

I have to wonder, was he one of the regulars that's on here today, incognito?

I've got to plead guilty to this one. My daughter wanted a snow globe of Las Vegas. I bought a small one to take to her. I thought sure it contained a small enough amount of liquid to make it past security but nope. And there weren't any inside security to be bought either. So she got a piggy bank instead.

Interesting store, I'll have to go over to Austin and check it out. Wasn't there a place in Alabama where all the lost luggage ended up?

I'm still of the opinion that FLAIRPORT was the creation of one or another member. I have to believe that, because believing that he was "for real" is one hell of a frightening proposition.

No kidding. I had a (rather pricey) jar of local prickly pear jam confiscated by TSA at PHX when I forgot to check it. What irks me is that I know they probably took it home with them. Wait to make us all safer guys!

The sad, sad thing is that you're probably not too far off in your assessment.

Well the police have something called civil asset forfeiture:

Maybe the TSA is doing something along those lines?

The photo with the snow-globe ban image above is quite nice and I can only imagine how popular the nifty snow-globe with a line across it image would have been in the thread.

Would the remnants of Flairport''s Snow-globe that was shattered by the object of his desire be allowed past the "security checkpoint" above.
