Will Michael Schumacher Get Another Podium? (F1)

Wed Jun 22, 2011 10:32 pm

Hi!

First off apologies to all those who are not interested in Formula 1. I thought of trying to somehow attach this to the F1 thread but decided I'll try a new thread. My question is do you think Michael Schumacher can get another podium with Mercedes before he retires. I know a lot of people didn't like him and got tired of him winning but I really liked watching him drive and still do. He came fourth in the last grand prix in Montreal and almost got a podium except Webbers car was like twice as fast as his and overtook him in the last couple of laps. I really want to see him get a podium just for old times sake. I don't think he'll get a first but just to hear him in the interviews again after the race would be cool for me.

Do you think he and Mercedes and Ross Braun can still do it in the new F1 of Red Bull and McLaren and Ferrari?

Any thoughts welcome.

Many thanks,

Pierre

I think Schumi still has the talent to obtain a podium, but sadly the Mercedes car won't do it. In Montreal, with the wet conditions the differences in cars was minimized and driver skill more apparent. And where was Schumi? Right near the top.
While I do think it's time for him to retire, I'd love to see him get one more victory or perhaps even a podium just for old time sake.

I would be quite happy to see Schumi on the podium.

Schumi and Kamui Kobayashi on the same podium... several times even!

After all why not?

I am growing tired of constant Red Bull and McLaren wins.

I think he's capable, but I'd rather not see him win another championship (as he said he wanted before be came back in 2010). I would like to see Rosberg on the top step though - he thoroughly deserves some recognition for his driving.

He might have much of his former talent but the general talent level across the grid is, by some accounts higher than in his heyday.

but sadly the Mercedes car won't do it.

In a recent interview MS said expectations had not been met and like the true champion he is! He laid the blame for that elsewhere, in this case with the car.

A podium, he was close in Montreal but that was a race that played to his skills in the rain, he was beaten by 2 Red Bulls and a McLaren that survived collisions, penalties and 6 pitstops, I feel his only chance is a race even more messed up than Canada!

Schumi can take a drive in a Red Bull and Vettel can drive the Mercedes.

Monza would be the right race.

This would make a good swap and would guarantee a podium for Schumi.

Vettel and Red Bull could not refuse this to Schumi as a 7 times WDC winner.

Schumi is the kind of driver that is good at defending a lead, not so good in the pack... By this I mean when he was winning he was doing it in a fast car that more often than not had him on pole or front of the pack. Once there he was fast, but he doesn't really know how to be fast when being surrounded by others.

Hi!

Cool to hear people's thoughts. I would really like to see him get another podium for old times sake but I see the point that maybe it would need another race as messed up as Montreal. His car doesn't really have the pace and I admit that his performance as a driver when lower down in the field might not be as strong as his driving when in front and defending a lead when he used to pull of absolutely awesome lap times. I'm hoping that Ross Braun just needs some more time to find the sweet spot and get the most out of his cars and get back in the real race which sadly they don't really seem to be in at the moment. When he finally retires I'd like to see him do some commentating on German TV. I won't understand a word but it will be cool to watch. Or maybe he's too much of a winner and won't be able to handle being just a commentator!

Many thanks,

Pierre

I feel like he may have a shot this year, depending on how the hot gas diffuser ban effects the teams. I think its common thinking that the RB7 will be hurt the most. Honestly, I feel Ferrari and Mercedes will benefit the most from the ban, and if that turns out to be the case, I see Michael having a chance for some wins later in the year. IIRC, the W02 is one of the quickest cars in a straight line, so perhaps one of the tracks with a long straight will be his best chance?

Yeah, only Vettel hasn't got that aggressive style. Oh wait, when the mapping and blown diffusers stop RBR from being so fat, maybe he'll have learn to race

BTW: shouldn' this thread be in the 2011 season topic ?

Personally I think F1 is the world's biggest yawn and has been for many years.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

He is not the same Hammy anymore.
He's been a bad boy showing the wrong side of himself.
Wrong girlfriend - wrong entourage.
Maybe he should give up F1 and go into show biz with NIcole.
Let's see how he will fare for the rest of the season.

 Wow!
