While I know what is happening in the big cities, living 20 miles from the nearest city (of any size), I have very little problem with the "texters"; we DO
have a lot of 24/7 cell phone addicts running around driving on the wrong side of the road, on blind curves, etc. blathering away on their damned cell phones.
My need for a cell phone is limited to when I need to travel out of town alone, which is usually quite infrequent; ( until just lately ) so now I take a "trac phone" with me, and I "report in" for 10 minutes each evening; ( about 5 min of that is taken up by saying hello to both cats, and one of the three dogs. ) ( I don't talk to the bird, but he/she quits "chirping" when I leave, and only resumes when I return. ) I really despise talking on a phone; (unless it's for a very good reason, such as to call the bank to check my balance, or to make a doctor appt., etc.
We were in the Chicago area all last week for a wedding, home Sat. nite late, and stayed inside Sun, Mon & Tues ( due to 100 degree heat outside
when I drove down to the the "old mill" this evening, 10 people commented......Hey Charley, where ya been ? we were getting worried ! ( You would have thought I just got back from a "tour" in Afghanistan ! )
I forgot to mention, I don't have a problem with all the "cell phone maniacs because we have a HUGE deer population around here, and I'm quite accustomed to going 10, 15, even 20 mph to avoid hitting "Bambi", so it also works for the idiots!
Actually, I'm a pretty "placid" guy any more; it's NOT my nature...........it took me 4 or 5 yrs to "retrain" myself, after 40 yrs of 1,500 to 2,500 miles a week, much of it on Interstates, and getting in fist fights with other smart ass truck drivers in median strips, etc. My cardiologist says "you're the calmest, trimmest former truck driver I've ever seen in here ! How do you manage it ?" I thought about that for a while; it's not the first time I'd heard it. Finally, the best thing I could think of, was "I have trained myself to be "unlike" most ( not all) everyone else; I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol, I don't use drugs or anything else to "get high", I don't lie, I never steal, and I try very hard to always be in a good mood, no matter what ! ( I also must be clairvoyant........I can "sense" a bunch of "oh BS
's from A.net members ) So go ahead, have a good laugh.......it's good for you ! Meanwhile, at age 78, my "ticker" is great, my BP
is like 120 / 65, and my PSA
has "plummeted" from 8 ( when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, to .1 on my last semi-annual exam. My eye internal pressure is holding at normal now for 5 yrs ( I have glaucoma ) and my doctors all tell me I'm in better health than most 45 & 50 yr olds.
So to any young A.netters who regard me as a "cranky old conservative .........................." ( you can fill in the blank, I left plenty of room ) here's a "tip"; no, not an "opinion", this is a FACT.................we all have a "birthday" every 12 months; we all "grow older" at exactly the same rate; but when we ALL
get to a certain number of "birthdays from when we were born...............for some reason,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there is one hell of a lot of difference in our physical condition, and, more to the point, It's largely up to YOU as to what that condition will be ! Forget politics, forget democrats and republicans, forget EVERYTHING except ( at least until tomorrow ).........."how long do I want to BE
HERE ?" ( I have a definite "goal" but I'm not going to say what it is ) I'm very surprised I replied to this thread,,,,,,,,I had no idea I would; but something just told me to "go ahead". See, what may really surprise many of you............I don't "get mad" at people just because they disagree with me; "getting mad" not only never wins arguments, but it DOES actually SHORTEN one's life! Think about that when you try so hard to insult the next person who disagrees with "your view"; I guess an analogy would be ( and yes, I just "thought this up", so it's "original" ) trying to drown a duck by pouring water on him; the water just runs off, the damned duck doesn't even get wet, and YOU just run out of water !
P.S. and being in a "good mood" all the time is definitely MORE FUN !
