My baby, older pics, now its a bit lowered with sport H&R springs and has EPIC Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires, producing a great daily driver/track car setup. Though I'm gonna regret getting those tires once the freezing temps/snow comes along.

3 at home at the moment

Old-School E280 - currently at the panel beaters after someone backed into it at the Costco car park

Saab 900 Cab, nice car, but selling it for something more 'practical'..

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n267/dthommo01/Picture1532.jpg

& my folk's Saab 9-5, only had it for a couple of weeks, very nice to drive. Haven't got a photo yet, so here's a similar one. Replaced a Jeep Cherokee that loved to guzzle. Nice car, but not really suited to suburban driving...

At the moment I drive a 2009 Mazda 2. I'm actually very pleased with it I'm paying ~$35 a week in fuel for my 21 km (each way) commute can connect my music with the aux port and has a power:weight ratio which rivals a Commodore/Falcon vehicle. I've never had a single drama with it. I got rear ended by a 14t truck (he was going around 30 km/h) took a fair whack but only sustained minor cometic damage. I really can't speak highly enough of it.

*Identical car to mine

The other car I occasionally drive is my mothers 2008 Nissan Tiida (known in the US as the Versa). Quite frankly it's pretty boring and the brakes are alot tighter then mine I remember the first time I used it I almost put the dog though the windscreen.

*Identical car to hers

VW Touran 2.0D Highline

Just not with the DSG transmission, I’ve driven far too many thousands of kilometres with it in the Touran and its only strength is upshifting when it wants to (there it beats any transmission I know of IMHO) but in downshifting, overall smoothness and driving from stillstand it is a nightmare. The manual transmission of this car is amazing and the handbrake is, when you need it, steady as a rock.

No, some have the manual transmission.
After having driven so many kilometres with this transmission, I’ve been able to analyse its shifting behaviour and, as I said, upshifting is almost as smooth as a CVT (no shifting) but the jerkiness is what I hate.

The demo car the dealer had didn't appear to have any problems, it shifted as smoothly as my wifes V70, plus with the 170hp 2.0D engine it's also fairly quick, I was impressed.

I imagine your wife will have to change the way she drives off from a standstill – the difference from a normal automatic transmission is, at least in my case, very big. Every time I drive an automatic I get scared because it reaches quite a speed with the foot still on the brake! In those cases I usually wish for a manual transmission with which I can control the clutch by myself.

I totally believe you. I have a good buddy here in Bangkok that owns a 1993 Mercedes S500. He was telling me that the metals used on that generation of Mercedes is stronger than the new models. Riding in his 1993 S500 made me homesick and reminded me of riding in a proper full-size sedan back in the United States. Same for the Toyota Crown. Can’t wait to own one!

Quoting melpax (Reply 29):

Not yet. I'm planning a big trip early next year so I might wait until after the trip before I buy the Crown. The oppressive car tax here is a tough pill to swallow. I've always prided myself in buying cars cash. Looks like I'll have to finance this one. You have no idea how much I hate riding in these rinky-dink Toyota Altus, Vios taxis, insane drivers that can be complete a-holes and relying on uncomfortable, slow as molasses buses on short getaways out of town.
