Question About An Ear Problem

Mon Sep 12, 2011 4:31 pm

I don't know quite what the issue is, but I know there are some experts in the crowd who may be able to help.

I'm still getting over a cold, one where I have been extremely congested. My right ear the last couple days has felt like it has "popped" (Like when flying), but it hasn't gone away. Much the same as when flying I feel a small (but not painful) amount of pressure and hearing has been slightly diminished. I've tried swallowing, chewing gum, and blowing at a closed nose. Nothing has worked. Is this just a result of the congestion that itself also hasn't gone away yet?

I apoloize for the likely terrible typing. I wrote this post on my my ipod touch.

Possibly, buy it also sounds like you may have developed an ear infection. You should probably go to an ENT to find out. In the mean time take some Ibuprofen to see if taking away swelling reduces thie issue.

Same thing happened to me last October after a sinus bout and a long plane flight. Turns out I had an ear infection and a perforation of the ear drum - quite common, apparently.

You should definitely see an ear-nose-throat specialist as antibiotics are most likely indicated.

Check your dentition.
See a dentist as well as the ENT who should give your ears a good cleaning.
You may be suffering from referred/reflective pain need to distinguish symptom and cause.
I remember when I was 19 my ears were in pain when in fact it was my wisdom teeth which were compacting.
For good measure, see an osteopath to reset your alignement as
ENT problems are all maxillofacial osteocranium related.
After showering or swimming, use boric acid drops in your ears.

I had a lot of ear infections when I was a kid and a few as an adult and it sounds like an ear infection to me. Go see and ENT doctor to be sure though.
