GM Confirms New 2014 Chevy Colorado Truck

Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:24 am

GM's next-generation midsize trucks are currently slated to launch sometime in the first half of 2014, likely as 2015 models. Although not confirmed by General Motors, it is expected that the next-generation midsize trucks will continue on the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon names. The next-gen North American model Colorado will be built at a remodeled/renovated plant in Missouri.

The new trucks will be based off of the same architecture as the recently revealed Chevrolet Colorado for Asian markets and the Holden Colorado in Australia. Hopefully, the 2.5 Liter diesel motor offered in the Asian model will be offered (finally!!) in the North American version, The current (slow selling and overpriced) North American only Canyon and Colorado are due to be discontinued next year,

Perhaps, this development will lead Ford to build the Asian/Oz market Ranger pick-up here in America - since the current versions of the U.S. market Ranger has stopped production,

If it is, there is a good chance I will trade in my Tacoma for one.

Overpriced on MSRP maybe, but it is always heavily discounted. I priced them when I bought my current truck and found the quote quite low, along with the Ranger's.
You know the gear is up and locked when it takes full throttle to taxi to the terminal.

Ooo..I like it. I really do. Hope it is better than its crap Rodeo/Colorado predecessor.

Holden Colorado

Is a POS. The diesel has so many problems..no wonder the Hilux and the new Ford Ranger are far more popular here.

And if it would be available with a MT, I'd buy one too. However, I'm afraid it won't happen. With this "bigger is better" attitude truck owners around here have, nobody dares to bring in a small diesel in this segment. Not to mention the problems with the emission laws. Otherwise Toyota and Nissan would sell their diesel trucks here long time ago. They do it in Europe, Toyota offers the Tacoma with a diesel engine (it's called Hilux there) and Nissan offers the Frontier with 2 kinds of diesel engine (Navara). But here, no. Heck, you can't even buy a crew cab with a fourbanger. For my purposes it would be more than enough.

I hope those selling into the US market are getting the message that bigger is not better for everyone.

Also if they could make a reliable diesel that can meet US/CA emissions laws, I think it'd be quite popular.

Given that us US taxpayers are unfortunately also GM shareholders, I hope they can get this right.

Otherwise, if they can't make a profitable midsize pickup, I hope they did what Ford did and abandon the segment.

Ford never sold a mid-sized pickup here. The US Ranger is a compact. If you see the size of the overseas Ranger, it's understandable why they feel it would cut into F150 sales. Its too effing big.

I suppose you're right, but when I think compact truck, I think of the Japanese four-bangers of the 70s and 80s.

The thread title needs a correction. This is a RUMOR. All of it. Nothing has been confirmed by GM, including whether they will sell that truck here, nor where it will be built.

It's interesting that Ford offers trucks both too small, and too large, for today's buyers. The stock F150 is ridiculous how big it is.

Correct, but last I read, it was selling very well.

You can buy a crew cab Tacoma with the 2.7L 4 banger in the US. It is new for this year (previously you could only get it in regular and extended cabs), but AFAIK is not available in Canada.

Wouldn't help me anyway, since it's only available with an automatic transmission, which I don't want. Not to mention that 4x4 drivetrain isn't available with this engine either, but that's not a biggie.
The prices, however, are incredible compared to Canada.
