Thieves steal truck with President's equipment

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – NBC12 has uncovered one of those stories that makes you think: "How in the world does that happen?!" A truck filled with President Obama's podiums and audio equipment was stolen in Henrico just days before his visit to Chesterfield.

We confirmed an investigation with the U.S. Defense Department. There are still a lot of questions. The biggest one being did the thieves intentionally target the President's truck or did they take advantage of a crime of opportunity and give a big "uh-oh" when they saw what was inside.

They probably have spare teleprompters for him.

Stealing the President's equipment is an act of war.

Must be the Iranians.

It may be a simple story but behind the scenes a lot of questions are probably being asked and someones feet will be held to the fire. I certainely do not know the full logistics of a presindential visit but based on what is seen in advance of such visits someone somewhere is in a world of hurt.
A number of US Airforce cargo planes usually accompnay POTUS, the "beast" is usually present, so does equipment trucks like this also get a ride, in which case it should have been under guard at all times, after all, one could place some small bombs or chemicals in the equipment and cause some serious damage.

Would be interesting to know if any of the equipment in that truck was actually used when POTUS showed up.

I guess they didn't set the alarm before they left the vehicle. Probably some amateurs who thought they had a nice payday. I bet they when they figured out what they had, they were not happy.

Still, you would think there would have been some better systems in place to make sure the vehicle was secured.

As to the bashing of our President and his use of teleprompters, there are good reasons to use them. When the President gives a speech, it is critical to make sure they are accurate in what they say, not cause any problems with a misstatement, not miss any important parts, make sure they have names and places right and the policy is properly stated.

Considering every President from Washington to Nixon was able to get along without them and still communicate effectively and descively it makes you wonder how far we have slid that they are now "necessary".

I would say the situation is a lot different now. With the way media has changed, especially with internet. Every single mistake will be spread virally and out of control. These are things presidents that you mentioned never had a problem with.

I'm sure Obama could function well without a teleprompter, but the trouble is that media will focus on any shortcomings in his speech, and I'm sure a few users here on a.net would even start a thread on it, just to bash Obama.

As Fly has shown, I'm just as certain he can't. Impromptu public speaking is some of the hardest speaking in the world to master whether the crowd is made up of school children or retirement home citizens

Which is a shame but the left, through their incessant harping on President Bush's verbal shortcomings, only brought it on themselves.

Your certainty fails you again... there are plenty of 'NEWS' clips across of the president speaking off the cuff in many occasions if you bother to look for them.
.. and I'm sure he's far better at it than many 'self-proclaimed news reporters/journalist and producers.

I didn't say there weren't, but there are also plenty of clips of him failing at it as well. Since the left made hay over any time President Bush mispronounced a word or phrase, or stumbled while speaking this is nothing more than what goes around comes around.

Oh I'll be the first to admit my blooper reel is long and illustrious. I've mispronounced names, places and events. I've mistaken historical events and contemporary issues. That happens when you spend several years talking off the cuff 3-4 hours a day,5 days a week so you are bound to make a few mistakes. The difference is that, as Fly showed, when he ventures away from the safety net of the teleprompter he is just as prone as his predecessor to making mistakes. He is not the mircale orator he was cast to be in the campaign of 2008.

That's weak dude, there's just no comparison between Obama's ability to annunciate, speak flawlessly and comprehensively compared to Bush who is known for simply mangling the english language.

No question, in my memory, nobody has done it as well, or as often as Bush. The funny thing was, after he did it, if he knew he did, it was quite funny watching his recovery, or his attempt to. I think Gov. Perry has a little of it, although he is not so funny. A common problem among politicians, the tongue, not saying what they mean.

His speech at the 1992 Democratic Convention was brilliant.

True. He has an excellent command of knowledge when he is quoting from the Qu'ran. He needs no teleprompters for that. I wish there was a video of him reciting the call to prayer in perfect Arabic - a sound he said; "is one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset". That was with New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof - a left leaning media outlet that is very pro-Obama.

Ask me what it means with the sentence fully intact, ebay was 2nd part phrase...but I think you got the point.

Obama and the executive branch could save Europe from the GFC, win peace in the Middle East, restore the USA to it's place as the worlds manufacturing and economic powerhouse..all in a weekend.. then if the POTUS took off his shoes and walked across the surface of Chesapeake Bay... you would all be shouting "Look the President can't swim!!!"

So what, Muslim ideology is somewhat beautiful in itself, and in many cases not too different from Christianity. The Muslims that the US fears are the ones that seem to take things too literal, and I'll admit that many places do follow it too much to the word. This is a problem only because it is an ancient book with some ancient ideals (such as role of women, etc.). Ancient ideals, which point to a way of life not much different from Christianity at the same time period.

If what you say is true, then my respect for Obama has actually increased. Think, a US president that actually understands the world outside of the US.

Speaking of which, since he is now sending troops into Uganda I wonder if his Nobel Peace Prize is under review yet?

But to your point. When President Bush was in office we got almost a thread a day. A dip in a poll number, a misstatement, a complaint about the White House Christmas cards, how he talked, how he dressed, how much vacation he took, how he was a puppet, how he was twisting the Patriot Act, and on and on and on. Many of them were personal attacks. He was called a chimp and various other simply vicious names. The amount of threads about his administration dwarfs whatever has been started on President Obama. What goes around comes around. I won't speak for all the conservatives on this forum but the threads I have started have to do with his political policies and not his personal tastes or decisions. I think his public policies are competely open and fair game for discussion as they affect every citizen of this country.
