Eerie: Japan Tsunami Debris Floating Towards U.S.

Tue Oct 25, 2011 4:39 am

When I saw this report...I shuddered. There's just something about this that is incredibly eerie to me...perhaps the fact that entire houses are floating across the Pacific ocean towards Hawaii and North America, and knowing how many people died as this debris was swept up. But even more eerie is that despite all of the images on the news, this disaster was far away geographically from North America. And yet within 3 years, these relics of this horrible disaster will make landfall on America's shorelines. We'll share in witnessing the destruction of the tsunami first hand, as it washes up on our shores.

Very sad. Very strange. Very interesting. Here's the link:

That is strange but I'm not surprised either.
If you're at the beach and see any Japanese LaserDisc was ashore, pick them out and save them for me.

Why is it Eerie or surprising? It's just the North Pacific current doing it's thing.

It's not the current itself that's eerie...it's the sight of a large mass of debris that represents destruction and loss of life just sitting out there in the middle of the ocean, and eventually coming to our doorstep. It's like...the same kind of eerie feeling you'd get if you found a piece of airplane wreckage from a crash decades ago that killed hundreds of people.

You beat me to it Gemuser...

Here is a much more amusing and less macabre version of the story (wihout tragedy associated with it) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1858070/posts.

A further explanation:

Sorry.

Sadly, and ironically, another piece of evidence scientists were able to use to show where oceanic currents travelled was a particularly large spill by Dow Chemical of CFCs into the ocean. Scientists knew the chemical signature of that batch of CFCs and could thereby trace the water masses movement around the globe, knowing the date and time of the initial spill.

I wonder if the debris mentioned in this article will end up in the garbage patch that sits in the middle of the Pacific?
