Guilty Confession - Steps Reunion

Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:20 am

I just found out The Steps are back together and going back on tour in April 2012.

Dont know if they were really know this side of the Atlantic?

Anyways, here is my guilty confession - I am slightly excited.

And I dont quite know why. They were crap. They go against exactly what I dont like about manufactured bands and puppet artists. They tried to emulate Abba, who I have a deep musical respect for, depsite being a rock / metal guy.

But for some reason I liked them back. Despite even learning to play most of their hits (dont ask.....) I havent listened to them in 8-9 years, but just having blown a couple of hours on youtube refreshing my memory, maybe its because they were synonymous with a turbulent time in my teen years which worked out for the good, its a pleasant trip down memory lane. And their songs were catchy. Claire could actually sing. I feel sorta ashamed of myself, but I would actually like to see them...

I always loved Lisa Scott Lee for some reason. Always liked brunettes. Maybe it was her lack of bras. Maybe its seeing her approach milfdom which fuels the excitement.

Anyway, I need your help and support please for this to blow over - thanks in advance

Oh, and any Steps fans here by chance?

Will you regret this post in the morning?

I bet you know all the dance moves to their version of 'Tragedy' as well. I don't.*

I think the appeal of Steps was that they didn't pretend to be anything other than what they were. They openly admitted they were manufactured, mainstream pop. Their songs weren't about deep ethical dilemmas or saving the world - they were largely about having a good time and/or falling in love (even the ballads tended towards the upbeat side of things!). At the time, I think that was just what people needed. Do we need it now? Depends whether your reaction to global unease is to sit in your armchair and listen to protest songs or to get away from it all with a sound that's so cheesy it can't possibly be anchored in the real world...

*but give me a couple of drinks and I'll try to remember...
Have you ever felt like you could float into the sky / like the laws of physics simply don't apply?

LOL, I had to learn a whole bunch of stuff for parties, the majority of the attendance generally being females. Fortunately actually playing the songs on keyboard meant no scope for prancing around. Sure the BeeGee's were impressed anyway...

Interesting to see how loyal their original "fans" were, but IMO, its no worse than the majority of crap around now.

Could well be the only reason people are interested...

They were great back in the 90's, so im not sure how they will be now... It could go either way but you never know in a year they could be back on track and at #1. We will have to wait and see...
