Battlefield 3 And Xbox 360

Sat Nov 05, 2011 10:53 pm

Talk about first world problems here...

So I bought Battlefield 3 today, my first real 360 game, and discovered the hard way it is incompatible "out of the box" with the 4GB XBOX. I had enough room to install HD graphics pack and was planning to just run the game off the disk. Apparently, the graphics have to be installed on an actual hard drive and won't install onto the internal flash memory. I believe this is because flash loads slower, but I can't believe there is no kind of advance warning. In fact, many retailers are even bundling the 4GB version with Battlefield 3 for thr upcoming holidays with no warnings... So I went back to the store and attempted to return the game, however couldn't because I had already opened it. My only option at that point was to settle for crappy graphics or spend another $100 for an XBOX hard drive. I eventually bought the hard drive, but am still quite pissed off over this. I expect this to become a PR nightmare for Microsoft and Electronic Arts after the holidays...

Game is sick as hell though...

PS3 for the win! You should have waited and gotten Modern Warfare 3 on Tuesday!

It almost sounds like they just wanted to make an incredible game but they couldn't fit nearly any of it on the disk.

Well BF3 was made first and foremost for the PC platform. It was only afterwards adapted for consoles.

It was announced by DICE quite a while ago, and gaming websites had many articles and discussions about this. But I guess that this would have been missed by any who don't follow these sites.

But, as I see it, BF3 doesn't fit on a normal DVD, so the choice for them were to lower graphical content and fit it on one disk, or use a second disk and have it install onto a hard drive. Remember BF3 was created for PC and then ported to console, unlike COD.

If I remember correctly, the install could be installed onto a USB portable HD or memory stick (which could have been really cheap), so there isn't a need to buy the XBOX hard drive.

For a game like BF3, the "textures pack" is a must.
