So I have heard that Western Digital will not be able to ship any 2.5" hard drives for six or so months. And WD is not the only manufacturer affected, many HDD manufacturers are greatly impacted by the floods in Thailand. So what will be the impact on the industry as a whole? Will it cause a shift to solid state drives faster than is occurring already? Is SSD even a real option? How will it affect the "cloud" industry and the servers farms that the big internet companies have and depend on?
I was basically told that if I was planning on getting a computer for Christmas or in the near future, I should do it now.
