Are Wi-Fi-Enabled Laptops Really Frying Your Sperm

Wed Nov 30, 2011 8:52 pm

This is one of those headlines that can get your attention. I read it with great interest until I remembered that after surgery and radiation for prostate cancer it doesn't matter that much to me.
Quote:

Argentinian researchers obtained semen from 29 healthy men, and stored the samples underneath a laptop computer connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi, presumably simulating the experience of using a laptop on one's lap.
Four hours later, the sperm in the samples stored under the computer showed less movement than sperm in samples that were stored at the same temperature but away from the laptop. And 9% of the laptop sperm showed DNA damage — more than three times higher than in the control group.

Find this hardly believavble.
I have used a laptop for 8+ years with Wifi. plus an Iphone with WiFi.
My wife and I have had 2 kids during that time with no defects/.

My belief is that the HEAT from the laptop is more responsible than the WiFi.

Higher temperatures cause decrease sperm count. Heat certainly does not triple DNA damage to sperm.

Two different things.

possibly,
But I am going with the assertion from the article here .

"
Ejaculated sperm are particularly sensitive to many factors because outside the body they don't have the protection of the other cells, tissues and fluids of the body in which they are stored before ejaculation. Therefore, we cannot infer from this study that because a man might use a laptop with Wi-Fi on his lap for more than four hours then his sperm will necessarily be damaged and he will be less fertile.

Well, I sit here typing this with my laptop on my lap. I admit to a warm glow around the groin area, but even if all my sperm are toasted it makes no difference to me as I have two small pieces of my vasa deferentia missing.

Seems like a really lame way for a guy to get out of wearing a condom.

That sounds like a problem that solves itself.
The plural of Airbus is Airbuses. Airbii is not a word.
There is no 787-800, nor 787-900 or 747-800. It's 787-8, 787-9, and 747-8.
A321neoLR is also unnecessary. It's simply A321LR.

I've had laptops since 2003...I've never actually used one on my lap though. Always on a table, desk, etc. I just found that trying to use it on my lap is uncomfortable on my back and shoulders.

I've never liked using a laptop on my lap. That is just too much technology and heat near my fun parts.

I still use a desktop at home and only use the laptop at work or if I have to work remotely.

So these 29 healthy men masturbated for nothing?

I'm not too worried about it, my sperm aren't going for their intended purposes anyway.

Is it sad that the first time I bought condoms it was to us to build the body of a Vladi Worm (Flyfishing/Flytying) rather then for their intended purpose or their secondary purpose

Argentinian researches, pah, what do they know.

Two years ago they spent 10 million dollars and 12 months of research time to discover that a mans penis is shaped the way it is to heighten the womans pleasure during lovemaking. American researches spent half the amount and half the time to come up with similar conclusions.

The University of Dublin spent £2.50 and twenty minutes to discover that a mans penis is shaped that way to stop his hand flying off at high speed!

ROFL

Now, the philosophic question is, will the sperm be fried or boiled? And, what about lap dance?

For the sake of this study, yes! ...... for self pleasure . I'd say you would have to ask them individually.

Microwaved  . The most common band used for Wifi is 2.4GHz which is roughly the same frequency as used in microwave ovens. The transmitted power is however extremely low around 30 milliwatts (15dBm). Another mitigating factor is that - as far as I know - most men do not have their b@lls directly hanging under the WiFi USB stick which also reduces exposure because of what RF engineers call Path Loss.

GSM cellphones are far more dangerous. They operate at 0.9, 1.8, or 1.9 GHz and have a transmission power of 1 Watts. Car models even 8 Watts.

yes, of course, one should always try the technical approach first.

Trust me, given the reaction of women of nearly all nationalities to the sight of an Argentine male, those 10 million dollars were simply the amount spent on protection for all the expat women who gladly stated "research me!".
