I'm pretty positive that everyone here hates that film, due to obvious inaccuracies, unrealistic plot, and the sheer gall of trying to make a parody of aviation.

I still laugh my ass off. Julie Haggerty sounded and looked lilke a young lady I came close to marrying back in the 80's. Which would have done in my parents.

The unsung hero who I thought stole the show was the late Steven Stucker who played the Gay air traffic controller. I have some fellow crewmembers/friends that could do justice to his legacy if Airplane was ever remade.

I'd love to play Captain Over but insead of the boy and gladiator races, I'd have 18 year old leggy big breasted hotties in the cockpit. Do you ever dress as a schoolgirl with pigtails and a micro plaid skirt? I love flexi girls and cheerleaders; say rah rah for your captain Over.    As Beavis would say Booiiiiing

Frankly, I find it to be a racist, offensive, movie best left back in the racist era it was produced in. No different than Archie Bunker, and his All In The Family, really.

You are entitled to your opinion. Reminds me of whats 1 mans meat is another's poison. I for one find dreck like the Office and 99.9% British humor as funny as staring at a bar of Ivory soap. But hey, I am a Howard Stern fan and embrace Beavis and Butthead back on the air. I'm curious to hear your spin on Stern and the two funniest fuckups only behind the Three Stooges with Curly.

Even for those PC folk you have to laugh at how this movie lambasted all the cliches of airline disaster flicks!

Isn't that the slapstick movie remake of the quite enjoyable Arthur Hailey novel "Runway Zero-Eight"?

Yes, I first saw Airplane!, when I was I believe in preschool. I love the part when Robert Stack said they have no instruments, then Ted, Elaine, the DR and the F/A was playing jazz in the cockpit, or a 707 that sounds like a prop or Barbara Billingsley talking jive. I love the TWA 747 crashing into the terminal.
I have to give it the Zucker bothers mother, Charlotte Zucher, she put her face thew some stuff for sons movie. First, she had lipstick smeared all over her left side of her face, then she had eye shadow smeared down her face. I know she could not wait to wash all that off.

I believe this movie was made a two years before TWA retired their 707s fleet, so this was a like one last look at an TWA 707 in a movie.

I guess you should not watch "Blazing Saddles" then either.

Airplane was hilarious, so was All in the Family and Blazing Saddles.

You need to lighten up and not take the films so seriously, they were meant to be that way so we could all laugh at each other and understand it was all meant in fun.

Everyone laughs when stand up comedians do this but when it is in a film everyone gets bent out of shape, why?

With this way of thinking any book about Hitler is an anti Semitic book?
Actually the writers of the show were what we would now call 'political correct' and they wanted to teach us tolerance about a whole lot of issues like race, sexual preference, abortion etc by showing Archie Bunker as the stupid.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Yes, pretty much that's what it is.

"Runway Zero Eight" was made into a TV drama on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) late in the fifties as "Flight Into Danger". Flight to Vancouver (YVR) ran into difficulty whe the pilots contracted food poisoning, private pilot and stewardess - as they were then called - landed the North Star on, you guessed it, runway 08.

Special effects were done the old fashion way without CGI and looks very convincing. Plus you had a singing Catholic nun, a kid in need of a kidney transplant, horny pilots, drunks in 1st. class, a blind man singing from the grand piano, George Kennedy punching one of those obnoxious news reporters in the face. I liked the Jive dudes. What's best is they actually made their own lines up.

Even better was in the DVD if you watch the movie with commentary, they add Jive Subtitles when the men are speaking in English!

I am a Black American man, who thought the jive talk was funny. The movie was supposed to be one big joke, and most of the thing that happened in the film, is things that not going to happen on a normal bases. What the chances of a 747, running into a terminal or a plane doing a nose drive when a woman is applying lipstick. Sometime we got to take jokes for what they are, jokes.

Bad news, the fog is getting thicker.
And Leon's getting laaaaarrrrrger!

Passengers certain to die?
Airline negligent?
THERE'S A SALE AT PENNY'S!

Johnny, what can you make of this?
This? Well, i can make a hat, or a brooch, or a pterodactyl...

Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol!

The tower? Rapunzel, Rapunzel!

Where did you get that dress, it's awful, and those shoes and that coat, jeeeeez!

Just kidding. *evil laughter*

Well, let's see: First, the Earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes-Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it!

Johnny absolutely stole the show, no two ways about it.

Superfly mentioned it being dated. The disco music maybe. For most people maybe. If you want dated and a lousy follow up sequel Airplane 2 using the Space Shuttle. For many of us aviation enthusiasts Airplane transcends being dated due to it being a satire on the entire jenre of 1960's and 1970's airline disaster flicks. Even fucking up the details on purpose such as an old fashioned Sky King sounding prop for the jet sounds. Interestingly the 60's airline disaster flicks maybe due to cheapness screwed up the aviation details on a regular basis.

I love Airplane but don't really care for the sequel too much. I always thought is was a spoof of the movie Airport but looks like I was wrong. My all time favorite part was when they were getting ready for takeoff!!
