Kim Jong Il Cruising Pyongyang In A Lincoln

Wed Dec 28, 2011 7:20 am

Weird he would take his last ride in an American car.

Also, I think that in that country if you do not show serious grief you would be in big trouble. I think that is why everybody is hysterical.

Despite his flaws, he at least has good taste.
I find it ironic that this past summer, President Obama goes on 'jobs speaking' tour through the US on a Canadian made bus.

rlwynn, do you have any photos?
I'm curious as to what model he rode in.

ON a Lincoln, not IN a Lincoln.

At least he gets a final sight seeing tour of the city. After that he will play Snow White in a glass casket. Now let's hope for the sake of the North Koreans that now prince will kiss him awake.

Whoa that is AWESOME! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

That is the same generation and color as mine!
President Jimmy Carter as well as Nixon, Ford and first 2 years of Reagan had that Lincoln.
Not sure why the Presidential versions use the base hubcaps (Deluxe wheel covers as the brochure list) instead of the turbine styled aluminum rims or the forged aluminum rims that my car has.

I thought Kim Jong II would use a Zil instead.

Purple rain only falls when angels are mourning Kim Jong Il's death, so naturally the Grimm Brothers wouldn't have heard of it.

Probably one of the bribes he demanded to stop his nuclear program.

Dear God, they threw Kim Jong Il's coffin on the ROOF of a 30 plus year old Lincoln!! He's part of the Landua Roof Package....

As much as Kim reportedly loved Daimler-Benz, I am surprised that they didn't put him in a Mayback Cabriolet and drive him around the capital in that.

I remember reading somewhere that he and his father had an impressive collection of vintage American luxury cars. It isn't uncommon for dictators to have a nice car collection.

I'm sure that's the case with some people, but in many I suspect it is genuine. You have to remember in that country the Supreme Leader is basically a God. All their lives the people have faced continuous indoctrination and brainwashing to reinforce that concept. When he dies it's like telling a religious person that God no longer exists.

The scenes of wailing are a bit reminiscent to me of Princess Diana's funeral, which I remember finding very peculiar at the time- people crying over somebody they'd never met.

I have a brilliant mental image of the car stopping suddenly and the coffin taking a dive onto the bonnet.

Reminds me of the Jackass prank where, in front of an open-air cafe, a casket adjustment went wrong and an actor fell out. Classic.

It is different because when somebody says that they have no proof that God doesn't exist the same way I have no way to prove that he does. It is all taken on faith. Kim Jong Il was a was a real person and by displaying his body it is proof that he is actually dead. I get what you mean about him being God like because he was to those people.

I remember seeing footage of Kim Il Sung's funeral back in '94. Lots of wailing people and a 70s Lincoln limo too.

Yanno, until this post, your own tastes never made sense to me, S'fly. I finally figured it out! You have "despot dictator" tastes!

Agreed. But out of curiosity, what would you have thought was more "appropriate" (for lack of a better word)?

So it wasn't just me...    There's a Top Gear challenge if I've ever seen one: Which American 1970s land barge is best for delivering deceased dictators to your doorstep?

Yes but I'd be a cool dictator. Sort of like Fidel Castro but allow more freedoms. My country would be a very fun place.
I would have an all woman army similar to this guy.
