What Happened To Regent Hotel Group?

Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:02 am

What happened to Regent Hotel Group? It seems that they lost so many hotels since the early 2000s. Regent Kuala Lumpur, Regent Hong Kong, Regent Bangkok etc.

I know they are doing a come back........

Several of the Regent hotels became Four Seasons after the company was bought by Four Seasons in 1992. The company was sold/ under new management twice after that before the Regent name became property of Formosa International Hotels in 2010.

That group owns one of the original Regent hotels, and is working to revive the 'brand'.

They plan to open two new hotels in 2012, two in 2013.

It will never be a huge brand and they operated in a very expensive, very competitive niche market. But they should survive and grow now that they have an ownership which is focused on the extra-luxury hotel industry.

Yes Regent was super luxurious.

How does Regent compare to Intercontinental?

The Regent Zagreb was easily as good as the London Ritz and Meridian, they also served the best hotel breakfast I've ever had.
