ATSF. I dedicate this to the old Los Angele Harbor Sub Division, between milepost 8 and 14.

Amtrak. You will see a SD40F, (SD40 base) instead of a F40PH, (GP40) in The some of these commercial. The SD40F was supposed to be Amtrak heavy locomotive and the F40PH was supposed to power lighter trains, kinda like the Genesis run the heavy trains and F-59phi run lighter trains.

Classic German ad for the then-new ICE trains from 1991 focussing on its technological achievements:

The last computer screen reads "Good Morning Horst" which makes the engineer smile. Rather optimistic as especially in the first year of service he would more likely be welcomed by a grumpy voice saying "Failure"

ATSF

Now let's REALLY go back in time: A 12 minute film reel for the all-Pullman ATSF Super Chief! Carried on cushioned springs by the finest GM F7 locomotives, the train of the movie stars ran til 1971. Did a brief stint as the Amtrak Super Chief before the Santa Fe, concerned about the lack of quality, forced AMTK to rename it to the Southwest Limited. Delivery of the new Superliner cars rescinded the naming restriction, but to this day it's the Southwest Chief.

Oh, what I'd give to see a warbonnet E or F unit pulling a passenger train!

Outstanding. What a shame to have lost the graneur of rail travel in the US. Germany have the excellent City Nightliner these days with similar sleeper cabins for Paris to major German capitals. Too far currently without enough HSR lines on German side (except Cologne and Frankfurt

Another from the UK, a 1959 British Transport film about the then new first generation DMUs.

When BBC2 started up it only transmitted in the evenings so they'd show films like this during the day for dealers to demo the new colour sets.

Ye olde days of the British Rail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddtPI07hhA8

With the text of W. H. Auden's "Night Mail".

There's an even older version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmciuKsBOi0

Now for Zurich's transport association. They wanted to stress that with the same ticket, you could ride bus, tram, ship and rail. Presto:
