Current TV Axes Olbermann's Show

Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:20 pm

Got the phone call from friends across town that he was sent packing about an hour ago for "failing to meet his contract."

Let the flaming begin.

Stay tuned.

I never really cared for Current TV, but In regards to Dish Network,Current TV in the last year got bad channel placements.
At first, they really had a very good channel placement being located with news channels like CNN and FOX.But then.for whatever reason, got jacked around twice where they were hard to find.I don't know if that effected KO ratings.

Like 'em or not, their behind the scenes organization is a mess. They're a small network - they should be in one building all together in one spot. But instead, as was the case of Countdown, your studio is in New York City, 90% of your content is coming from Washington, D.C., most of your management is in San Francisco, your graphics and video support is in Los Angeles ... if something goes wrong with your technical stuff or your internet, your New York City based person is out of the office and is in another bureau working on the same problem there. On top of that, your second big mainstay show is out of your San Francisco bureau, and everyone associated with it - is everywhere else.

In full disclosure I have several friends who work for the network. They're good people and doing the best they can so I'd like to see them get it all together for their sake.

As I posted at HuffPo on this annoucement:

I am not surprised at KO's termination from Current. for a number of months, he rarely wore a suit and tie, indeed sometimes his clothes were downright sloppy and unprofessional. He was often replaced with substitutes and even extended versions of other shows.
I wonder if there is a health or even a mental health issue we don't know about that may explain his problems at Current and even long before. He did speak about a head injury in the early 1980's that caused a need for hospitalization months later and due to that, he did not drive cars since then.
To paraphrase a famous quote - 'You won't have Keith Olbermann to kick around anymore'. Indeed, I think his video media career is pretty much ruined, perhaps he needs to turn to writing books and magazine articles.

At this point, it's becoming pretty obvious its Olbermann and not the networks that are the problem. How many networks has he been on now? ESPN, MSNBC and now Current? I used to watch his show every now and then when it was on MSNBC. He was a bit extreme but it was somewhat entertaining. Not interested in him at all anymore though.

Current has some good stuff; I really like Vanguard, but it's intelligent, factual, contemplative, deliberate, things that Olbermann and Spitzer never will be.

I'll bet money that Keith O ends up writing a left-wing blog for Huffington Post or Politico.....

If he would have called someone a slut for nine hours, he would have his show indefinitly.

Oh, wait.. That only works with right-wingers...
