In theory, yes. However, some of us have been trying that for a year with no effect at all. I have been eating less junk too. No chips/crisps, no ice cream, few sweets, and running at least two miles a day, and still there is that pudge.
Still too much food, then. Fat is just processed excessive food, nothing else.
I'm not saying it's always easy to keep the proper balance; We human beings have evolved while being threatened by starvation almost constantly, so our bodies are largely geared towards anxiously holding on to any nutrients as far as possible. So having as much food available as we want (or more!) is a new situation which we're not really adapted to, and often have trouble managing.
Getting enough exercise and managing the kinds and amounts of food we eat is pretty much all we can really do.
Keeping our genetically driven fear of starvation in check can be tricky, but in reality we don't really starve very easily, and much of the time we really need
much less food than "normal portions" three times a day as long as we're not physically working very hard.
I've simply reduced my regular portions somewhat; My hungry mind keeps yelling at me that what I'm preparing will be far too little food to actually keep me alive, but my experience tells me otherwise. And after the meal my experience usually turns out to have been right all along.
