US Politics Gone To The Dogs

Sat Apr 21, 2012 12:11 am

A little background for you guys not listening to US news about this distraction from all the serious stuff... (but still worth a few guffaws)

Last week, the Obama campaign attacked Romney for having once gone on vacation with the dog in a kennel lashed onto the roof of the car.

Of course, certain people were outraged...

The Romney campaign responded with a quote from Obama's book saying that as a kid, he ate dog meat.

Oh, the horror

I expect this to become a popular bumper sticker:

Here you have Joe Scarborough & Co. on MSNBC completely losing it over the story. (video link down the page)

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/joe-scarb...ews-that-obama-has-eaten-dog-meat/

In the end, the side who gets the upper hand in this story will be the side with a sense of humor.

Quote:
Why Romney's 'dog on car roof' story makes him unfit to be president

It might be unseemly to bring this up just as Mitt Romney celebrates his win in New Hampshire on Tuesday night and seems to be a strong front-runner for the GOP nomination. But the story of his putting his dog in a carrier on his car roof for a 12-hour family trip is spreading again on the Internet and disturbs me the more I learn about it.

And I am betting the more it gets out, the more votes Romney loses %u2014 red, blue and purple.

When, in a campaign debate, Romney opposed allowing a non-documented worker who has lived here for 25 years to stay and earn his way to citizenship, he struck me as heartless.

But when I read the story recently in greater detail about what Romney did to his Irish Setter, Seamus, that struck me as more than heartless %u2014 it struck me as downright cruel.
(...)
Here%u2019s one dog lover%u2019s opinion %u2014 mine:

I think anyone who puts his dog in a cage on top of a car for a 12-hour drive and then deludes himself or tries to delude others that the dog really enjoyed it %u2014 to me, with all due respect, I feel such a man shouldn%u2019t be president of the United States.

That story is from January - and even now that Romney is the nominee, it doesn't seem to me that the GOP and its supporters are optimistic about him and his chances.

IMHO, he's quite detached from the real world. There used to be lots of jokes about Joe Biden's gaffes, Romney looks the next fitting target for that kind of humour.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I was not a Romney supporter in the primary, but I think he can pull it off. He is running against history's most incompetent presidency - if all things were equal it would be no match, 80/20 landslide. With much of the media and the special interests in Obama's camp, it will be a lot closer, but I think Romney can pull it off.

You are right. This whole 'issue' might impact maybe a couple thousand votes total.

Just a point - he won't be the nominee until the GOP convention later in the summer. Yes, it is almost certain he will be the nominee.

but I think he can pull it off.

As I've said before - nothing the Republican nominee does really matters. If people have jobs and are optomistic about the future in October - the President is re-elected. If they don't have jobs and are worried about the future - he loses.

You or I could win the election if the economy is in the toilet in October.

I just found my next profile pic for FB.

Hell, I'm pretty sure the dog was a whole lot safer on the roof, in the kennel, than the way my freaking dog acts in the car in order to get his head out the window.

And, I haven't eaten dog, but who am I to judge the culinary customs of other cultures? Especially, since I'll eat just about anyhthing that crosses my plate.

This is a media generated distraction. Let's get back on topic

Oh, I don't know...maybe after he's out of office in 2013 we can tag him with that. Got to give him his last few months to pull it out. As of right now; Mr. Carter is hitting the knees every night.

A little background for all of you guys caught up in all of this nonsense about people eating dogs............
first of all, I have 3 dogs; I love dogs........I'm sure if you asked any one of my three dogs about me, they would tell you how lucky they feel, that I'm their "dad" ! (The same would apply to our two cats, and even Mort, (the bird).

Having just said that.........face it; dogs are just 4 legged animals........just like cats, monkees, ardvaarks, and elephants are 4 legged animals; in a "pinch", all of these animals can, (and have been) eaten by human beings in different places around the world. ( A hard, cold fact which means absolutely NOTHING, as far as the 2012 presidential election is concerned. Just discussing this "BS", you are allowing yourselves to be "side-tracked" off of the REAL subject, which is......two guys are going to be running for POTUS in that election; the present "pretender-in-chief", and Mitt Romney, (who was not my first, second, or third choice); one of them is going to be living in the WH from 2013, to 2017. Guaranteed !

But back to "people eating animals"............people have eaten all manner of things throughout geologic time, including all of the animals mentioned, plus "each other", and many more things which may seem to be "far out", depending on where you live and were brought up; they will all keep you from starving to death if you can't find anything better to eat.
Personally, I'm probably more fond of cats than any other creature, including but not limited to, some people; but so far, I have always been able to find more "traditional" things to eat, plus I have grown up and lived in a place where none of these things are ordinarily used for human nutrition. (So I have not had any of these things for "lunch")

So just ignore all of this distracting "BS" from now until November; then make your choice between the two you have to choose from; put them "side by side"..........underneath each one, list all of the things you absolutely know to be factual, and not just someone else's opinion; pretty easy really;

This is a classic 'distraction' issue canidates both like and loath, but the media also likes too due to the feelings people have for dogs and other 'pet' animals and the attention they get pushing them.

I would rather see both Romney and Obama have to discuss real issues, especially on the economy in realistic ways, not the usual BS.

Neither is Jimmy Carter - though I think the title of the most incompetent US President is owned by Warren G Harding, certainly the most corrupt.

With all that is going on in the different areas of the executive branch that is starting to hit the news I would not be pointing any fingers at Harding.
Quite frankly the thought I have of the present executive branch was coined by Obi-wan Kenobi.

Let's see... the previous commander-in-chief started with a surplus and left over a trillion dollars in debt AND failed to (because he didn't want to) find the most notorious terrorist on the planet AND drove the economy into the ground. But, he was better than adding jobs for how many months and deciding to go after OBL? Really? How?
