The Happy Thread.

Sat Apr 21, 2012 4:52 am

I'm tired of all the doom and gloom in this world. Especially in my own personal world. And, here at A.net, we've had a spell of tragic losses, Carl, Baroque and Kiernan.

Let's have a "Happy Thread".
We need more happiness around here.

Tonight, for me, it was a nice enchilada dinner and 2 margaritas at my favorite Mexican restaurant. It was great.

What makes you happy?
Tell us about the simple things in your life that make you happy.

I agree that we need more happiness!

Walking around Wellington this afternoon on a perfect Autumn day: warm, sunny, no wind.
Wrapping up my first two international contract negotiations.
Spending time with the people I love.
A nice glass of Gibbston Valley 2010 Pinot Noir
Texas Rangers baseball.
Reading a good book.

Thanks for starting this thread and hope you all have a wonderful weekend

Any day I get to fly. I had the most stressful week I've had in a while. Today I got to fly from GFK to 4V4 for flight training. We dodged snow squalls (this is North Dakota afterall!), did stalls, and even had some landings (weren't great but hey I walked away!). The moment I pulled that control wheel back on takeoff it was just like the stress of the week just disappeared. It was just me and Sioux 39 (well my CFI too, but I did pretty well so he was quiet). It was my happy place.

Good idea!

Some things that make me happy:
Being with people I love.
Interesting and inspiring conversations.
Great music.
Good food.
Being outside when the weather is great (or at least interesting).
When things are better when I leave than they were when I arrived.

Asked a lovely lady to prom and she said yes!
Hanging out with friends pretty much every weekend.
Going on bike rides around town, taking pictures or just going on adventures.
My new car has been excellent and has proven to be a good investment.
Getting good grades in school, and before I know it my senior year will be done and summer shall begin!
It ain't no normal MD80 its a Super 80!

Not so much the right stuff (I would like to think I do) but more of a passion. Try a 172S with G1000. It's such a fun airplane to fly. I'm sure some would disagree with me but I just love that airplane.

Well I'm hoping my birthday brunch later today will lift my spirits a bit. Not expecting or planning anything too big today since I really do have a lot to get done this weekend homework wise. Well my brother's home this weekend too so that's certainly nice, so it should be a nice weekend. One thing that's always made me happy is when people can get along with each other

I had a very nice week:
-Won a prize through the radio. Nothing big, just a CD and a gift certificate.
-Got an 90 on a test and once I showed the professor that I simply misinterpreted the instructions and that I had done the same exercises before the test he bumped up the grade to a 95.
-Got a 100 on a project with the same professor and it was supposed to be a group project (I did it all by myself).
-Got elected as president of our Tau Beta Pi chapter.
-Finished my week on Thursday (we got Friday off) with a nice, relaxing yoga session.

Needless to say, these are just a couple of things that make me happy.

What makes me most happy these days is having a very interesting job working with nice people on interesting, state of the art kinds of problems that pays quite well. I know it's not ideal to have work be the first thing that pops into your head, but many people strive to get the kind of situation I find myself in, and I'm happy to be here.

And I did a bit of rampant on-line consumerism last week that has been paying off with delivery vans leaving cool (at least in my mind) stuff on my doorstep.

We took the grandkids to a traveling dinosaurs show this afternoon and just dropped them off after taking them to Steak & Shake for dinner.

Anytime I can help the grandkids to be happy I'm happy.

We are also looking for bargains for another Med Cruise. The one last year was just too good to not repeat.

And both the wife and I have been cancer free/in remission for 5 years on our second cancers.

A great run in the park yesterday afternoon
Fantastic meal with friends at an Italian restaurant
Lots of drinks and entertainment at a great nightclub
Followed by some amazing porn star sex with my wife, (the alcohol may have adjusted my memory on this one)
Broke the hangover with a big yum cha lunch
And an afternoon playing with my daughter

Not a bad weekend. Made me happy

I love happy threads!

this is one that always puts a big smile on my face and makes me want to sing and dance.

Old Beatles videos. I was lucky to have known all this. I even got to see the Beatles perform in real life... two times!!!

Early 60's pure genius!!!!

It looked and sounded like this... ... truly incredible!

The Beatles - Live Washington Coliseum 1964 (D.C., United States Remastered HD 1080p ORIGINAL)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lfK2VPNx5s&feature=related

This one is terrific and it really gets funny as it goes

The Beatles - Rooftop Concert (Full Version)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWzs3YbtehI&feature=related

Beatles films

Help! (Full Movie) 1080p [HD]

Oh happy days!

When I get a chance to get out on the bike, that makes me happy. Amazing how something so simple as a bicycle can have such a positive effect on your mind.

Simply, you push yourself then you are too exhausted to think about being unhappy. I can thank a colleague at work for that. And I might even get over my fear of the crazy traffic and commute to work on the bike. It's dangerous from where I live thanks to the busiest roads in my city, but why not.

Sleep makes me happy. I spent yesterday doing various things but tucked in an amazing three naps and still slept through the night till 8:30 am today, and I feel marvelous!

It's kind of like hitting the big reset button on the brain and the body.

Yeah, something like that.   Just wish it wasn't quite so expensive.   Purchased today some winter riding gear, just the long bib-pants were near $160.  Wow! (Castelli). But I'm going to spend big rather than buy some cheap rubbish that doesn't fit, or has crappy chamois. My backside is worth it!

What makes me happy?

1: My family. My daughter may drive me to the edge often, but it's the smiles, the hugs, and the sight of her sleeping peacefully that makes up for it. And to have an awesome wife doing awesome things (Deans list in school three semesters running) and finally feeling good about herself is awesome.
2: Trips to the range. Nothing like 9mm, .44 Mag and 12 ga. slugs to relieve stress. Repeat as needed.
3: My hobbies. The aforementioned guns, computers, and planes.

That's what keeps me going.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with strings...
Quoting babybus (Reply 37):

Cream colour ponies and crisp apple strudels, door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles, wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings, these are a few.... no sorry I ripped that off. I don't like them much at all really.

The machoness here makes me happy.

Sleeping cat. Makes me happy. Better than sticking her tail up my nose while I'm trying to get things done.
