Pep Guardiola To Step Down As FCBarcelona Manager.

Fri Apr 27, 2012 3:06 pm

Sad days for us ¨Cules¨ Pep has announced today that he is to step down as FCBarcelona manager in June once his contract runs out, he will be replaced by his assistant Francesc ¨Tito¨ Vilanova.

We knew it was coming, we wish Pep the best of luck on whatever new project he embarks on, and cannot thank him enough for all the joys he gave us during this 4 years.

3 consecutive Liga titles.
2 Champions League titles
2 World Club Cups
1 Copa del Rey (Hopefully another this year)
3 Spanish SuperCups
2 European SuperCups

242 Matches of which 178 won, 46 draw and 21 lost

618 goals in favour and 178 against.

Gracies Pep and Visca el BARÇA!

A very sad news for Barça fans indeed. I feared the day it would come, and it came. Guardiola has done so much for this club, he has done so much for his players (bar a couple like Ibra) and for the fans. I honestly thought he would continue one more year, just for the sake of not leaving on a failure. But apparently he was completely worn out after four years.

No, I don't think we can. What he has achieved is simply incredible. He has made that team one of the best in the history of football. Period.

I hope the Camp Nou will celebrate him the way he deserves during the next home game.

I always thought that part of Guardiola's successes were thanks to him. He is an excellent tactician, so I'm not too worried about that aspect. What I fear is his abilities as a leader of men.

I'm maybe fantasizing, but what if he was taking a time off until the next club's presidential elections and then run for them? We all know he does not appreciate Rosell, so I can see Pep running against him.

When are the next elections?

Yes that´s what he said. he believes he finished his cycle and needs to move on, fair play to him, as much as we would love for him to stay, it was ultimately his own decision.

Let´s see what happens, May 2nd Barça v Malaga.

Big shoes to fill, I am pretty sure he will do allright, there were rumours of other managers up to replace him like Villas-Boas, Löw, Laurent Blanc and Marcelo Bielsa.

Could be true.

No idea, Rosell took charge in 2010, so 2014 maybe?

I agree, really sad.

Massive Barca fan here too. I think Tito will do well in the short term, but I'm really intrigued by Marcelo Bielsa. He's done massively interesting things for Atletic. Would love to see what he could do with the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, Sanchez, Fabregas etc.... Could be strategically brilliant.

So you think Tito is a stop-gap measure until Barça can get their hands on Bielsa? no idea how long is his contract with Athletic Bilbao.

Should be interesting indeed.

That's a real shame, he is definitely one of the hottest managers out there, always very sexily turned out ... sigh, one less piece of great eye candy, one less reason to watch.

That might a bit too far in time. If he is to take a sabbatical year like he plans to do, and come back to coaching after that, I'm not sure he would do it for just a year and leave.

Let's hope he takes two sabbatical years, then

I guess it will depend on how Tito is doing. It can be a year of transition... or not.

It's like coaching the Montreal Canadiens - the media fishbowl and pressure to win wears you down. I hope Guardiola can really have a year away from football to rest and rejuvenate. best thing he can do for himself right now is to terminate his telephone service for at least a few months !!

I think that's certainly possible. He can communicate with all the players, he's sort of crazy, and I think he could handle it.

Watching what he's been doing at Athletic, I mean come on, he went into Old Trafford, and utterly destroyed the arrogance that is Man Utd. And with a club that (let's face it) isn't nearly as good as the MU squad.

Don't forget Guardiola was one of the very few coaches to win a "treble" in the Champions League era.

As a lifelong Real fan I have to doff my cap to Pep. He is truly a class act with a record that cannot be denied. And oddly enough the Barca squad just come off as a class act in general under him. And tough as it is to admit, I do believe this is the greatest collection of players ever to take the pitch. I'm sorry Real and Barca won't be meeting in Munich this year..next year then.

Well done by Guardiola, a great era at barca, although as a chelsea fan that champions league that they won in 2009 should have been us. At least barca went home this year. Guardiola was a class act which doesnt apply to busquets. It would be a pleasure to have him at Chelsea.
