From The "You Can't Make This Stuff Up" File...

The Egyptian parliament is allegedly planning to introduce a hugely controversial ‘Farewell Intercourse’ law that will allow men to legally have sex with their deceased wives for up to six hours after their death.

This sickening law, which believes the ‘marital bond’ should still exist even after one of the partners have died, has been drawn up by the Islamist-dominated parliament but is yet to be passed, reports the al-Ahram newspaper.

The post-mortem sex law was originally raised by Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari in May 2011.

Ah yes, legalized necrophilia. How lovely.

But only 6 hours? Some of those mummies look good, wonder if they could extend it so you can marry a mummy and well, you know... "do the nasty".

Note: This is absolutely ridiculous. "Farewell Intercourse" indeed--this killed my mood for the day.

This is the original source of the story.

Another detail from the article: "Zamzami Abdul Bari said that marriage remains valid even after death adding that a woman also too had the same right to engage in sex with her dead husband. "

Which would be a rather more difficult proposition. Perhaps if she waited until rigor mortis completely sets in? That might be more than 6 hours though, so the amount of time allowed will be negotiated by a committee.

And we think OUR legislature wastes time. This is both stupid an sick. To think someone actually had the need (from constituents or maybe just one or two powerful ones who for some sick reason) to push something like this forward.

Hey I just realized something, is this at all connected to the "allowance" in the region of short term (one hour?) "marriages" for the purposes of prostitution/sex? Could it be that sometimes things "get rough" and the woman gets killed and the man needs an "out"?

Please forgive any insult those that live in and value the culture of the region, I am not meaning any attack. Really I am just trying to figure out why there would be a need for this type of legislation.

Of course here we will just waste time and money and resources prosecuting an idiot that does something as sick as this (postmortem sex    ). If it happened and the public found out, there would be a drive to make it specifically illegal (though I am sure it probably is already in most places) and to prosecute the one who did it. Even though It is a meaningless if sick crime. It shouldn't be "permitted" however the overreaction to dong such "sick" things shouldn't be allowed either.

Funny how one media outlet focuses on the proposal and the other one on the protest against it, isn't it? Anyway, another American publication has done a better job of reporting - and it is one that even you, Dreadnought, will hardly be able to call "pro-Islamist" with a straight face:

Quoting Christian Science Monitor:
Egypt 'necrophilia law'? Hooey, utter hooey.

'Necrophilia law'? Don't believe everything you read on the Internet, kids. At least until there's like, you know, some proof.

It has every thing: The yuck factor, "those creepy Muslims" factor, the lulz factor for those with a sick sense of humor.

It is the same story as always: if a news item fits your agenda this perfectly, employ extra caution.

Oh. Well, seeing as the only objection I had to the law was that it seemed to demeaning to women, that just makes it all better! Glad we cleared that up!

I don't think I need to tell you all this is a truly bone-headed law.
Hopefully it will be killed in committee.

Is it? Yes it's sick, yes it's the sign of some serious mental issues, but I can't think of the law that it would be prosecuted under if it was done behind closed doors.

But you know American's and our penchant to go after and lockup people we think are "sicko's" or people doing things "they shouldn't" and if we can't then "that ain't right" and we need a new law so we can keep them away from us and our precious children!

Honestly, I hope we don't have laws like this (barring it) because in the grand scheme of things it is relatively meaningless, if sick and disgusting. But I wouldn't be surprised if we do, politicians love to propose things like this that attract attention but don't really do anything. "Look at what I did and supported! I'm keeping preverts away from you and your precious children... Yes, ma'am I can give a kiss to your adorable baby!"

Actually, I was just thinking I bet it falls under laws along the lines of "defiling a corpse" or something like that.

Samea only reported on the NCW's response, not on the proposal itself. But I went to the NCWs website - get the story straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Here is Google's translation of it (sorry for the language, but this is Google)

http://www.ncwegypt.com/index.php?op...2%3Athe-council-&Itemid=94&lang=ar

Quote:
About the rumors about having sex with farewell
Monday, April 30 / April 2012 2:31 p.m. | | |

News - National Council for Women
Ambassador denied / Mervat Tallawy President of the National Council for Women reports in some media recently about sending the National Council for women a letter to Dr. / Saad Katatni head parliament on
Bill "fucking farewell," where did not send the National Council for Women's speech in this regard, and since this bill is not presented or discussed on the basis of Parliament

Has Ambassador / Mervat Tallawy to send a number of letters to the President of parliament on the committee preparing the constitution and membership of women, and also a letter on the texts of the constitutional articles that must be included in the new constitution, was sent this recent speech to the gentlemen editors of newspapers and magazines, to a large number of writers and intellectuals to urge them to adopt the constitutional principles relating to women and sent by the National Council of Women to Parliament and to all media, and there is no relationship between this speech and what was raised on the subject of "fucking farewell"

The Ambassador expressed the hope in the continuation of the permanent cooperation between the National Council for Women and the People's Assembly and Shura Council in their capacity as representatives of the Egyptian people, and that the National Council for Women is the Council of all Egyptians not biased to any group or party Ottaar

As pointed out President of the Board for a number of foreign ambassadors who have inquired about the topic of "sex with farewell", as well as to the station, "CNN," that this issue is unfounded and that the Egyptian parliament was acquitted of the subject, as this topic is due to the fatwa issued by one of the citizens in Morocco

She explained that Islam stresses the sanctity of the dead. And there are customs and traditions of respect for the dead girl. Therefore, the publication of such ideas and accused the Egyptian parliament that is working to increase the division between civilization and especially to harm the Muslims and the Islamic religion, which we reject and demand media that does not keep pace with this extremism and exaggeration in the opinion, and that the topic has nothing to do in Egypt or Berlmanha must stop this nonsense and not to comment on this matter

The translation is pretty much tortured, but If I read it right they are denying the whole thing. So be it then - it's a non-story.

Fair enough. However such news would hardly be surprising if true - plenty of messed up laws from that part of the world, including legalized pedophilia.

Egypt is not Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia. They have just ousted an oppressor and they're back in the streets protesting a transitional government that is obstructing democratisation.

Such news from that country could only fail to surprise you, if it was true, if for some reason you generalised all Muslims as backwards and perverse.

Once again, "that part of the world" is highly diverse and many parts of it are undergoing massive changes.
