Adam Yauch (Beastie Boys) Dead

Fri May 04, 2012 7:51 pm

After a 3-year battle with cancer:

I'm not the biggest Beastie Boys fan in the world, but I do like a bunch of their songs, and they were definitely huge. Their latest video, with Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Elijah Wood, etc., cracked me up.

Sad.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

Cancer sucks.

Why do we lose the good musicians too soon and the ones we wish would die won't?

I just watched the full length of it a little while ago. Jack Black as the MCA of "the future" was alright, but Danny McBride portraying the "young" MCA was awesome (This is what Kenny Powers would have been probably been like had he grown up in NYC as opposed to North Carolina..).

I remember when "Licensed To Ill" came out back when I was in 6th grade and over 25 years later, that album still kicks butt. To me, every track is killer, no filler. I used to go to a club here in Atlanta that has a long-running Thursday night retro night and if the DJ really wanted to get the crowd going, he'd put "Brass Monkey" or "No Sleep Till Brooklyn"

Also not the biggest fan, but their music made up a good portion of the sound track to my adolescence/teen years.

Born and bred Brooklyn - U.S.A.
They call me Adam Yauch - but I'm M.C.A.

No. Sleep. Till Brooklyn.

Grew up listening to Adrock, Mike D and MCA. They were my first introduction to hip hop and still my favourites. Thanks, MCA, for your contributions to music, video, the Free Tibet movement, your advocacy and everything else you did to make this world a better place.

Don't forget 'Fight for your right' as well.

That one is great, but in my comment I was mentioning how the DJs at this club I used to go to would often play "Brass Monkey" or "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" to really get the crowd going. "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" didn't get the crowds going as much as those two songs did. "Girls" did a better job at that than "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" at getting the crowd going.
