Possible To Party A Night At ZRH On A Budget?

Sat May 12, 2012 1:16 pm

Hello all,

I have a question especially for our Swiss friends:
It seems I might have a 9,5 hour stopover on a Saturday night at ZRH in September. I have read on here and over at sleepingatairports.net that overnighting at ZRH is actually a cheap and pleasurable experience, but since it's a Saturday night and my next flight leaves at 07:30 Sunday morning, I wonder if there is a more fun way to spend the night, or at least a few hours?

Problem of course, I wouldn't overnight in the first place if I wasn't on a budget and ZRH being ZRH... Any suggestions?
What's the minimum budget I should consider for transport and a couple beers?

Hi!

I'm sure the Swiss guys on here can give you much better advice but as someone who's been to Zurich quite a few times I will only say that getting the train from the airport to Zurich hauptbahnof is not too expensive and only takes like 15 minutes I think with trains running very regularly. If you prefer to get some sleep I think the airport has beds available for a price for people on layovers (but I'm not sure). Zurich is a cool city with lots of places to grab a beer and the weather may still be good for sitting outside. If you like the atmosphere of train stations there are even places to have a beer in the airy hauptbahnhof or equally by the lake is very nice too.

I'm heading to Switzerland with my parents again this summer by car hopefully and it should be good. We go to this place called Baden which is not too far from Zurich and very relaxing!

Yes, I have taken the train from ZRH downtowm but only during daytime.
Was hoping someone could point out some rough indications such as normal cover charges or beer prices 5CHF or 10CHF for a glass or bottle?

Following a google search I have read both good and creepy stories about Langstasse (street).

Still undecided.

Hi!

I don't know about Langstasse but I have one other piece of advice. I don't know if it's even your thing but be very careful if you go into a strip club. I did once on my own just out of curiosity and they tried to get money out of me like crazy while I just wanted to sit and drink a beer and watch a girl pole dance. It was pretty damn unpleasant and as soon as I had the beer I was out of there!

I don't really remember but I think a large beer in a normal place is about 6CHF maybe? I'm not really sure though.

Many thanks,

Pierre
