Obscure 1980s B Movies

Fri May 18, 2012 3:05 am

OK, I'm wracking my brain trying to remember the names of two 1980s B movies. They were teen oriented and were possibly shown on HBO and/or USA Network (possibly both.) My memory of both are rather vague.

1. The first movie was about a misfit teen who didn't fit into modern society. Somehow he wound up traveling back to prehistoric times and met a cavewoman, where he eventually decided that he was happier and elected to stay.
2. The second movie was about a misfit teen (surprise) who winds up doing a deal with the devil. The devil looked a bit like Peter Boyle. This movie was a bit like Bedazzled, but much more campy (if such a thing were possible) and far more low budget. A couple of other things that I remember is that the protagonist wished for a better body, and wound up being a bit of a hunk in the movie. I also remember him walking along the beach talking to the devil.

So...have I jogged any memories?

Sounds like pretty much every teen movie in the 1980s.

I was hoping this would be a "tell us your favorite 1980s B movie" thread and I could find out how many people have seen "Amazon Women On The Moon"!

Check out the movie Penitentiary 2.
This movie has so many WTF moments that make it so amazing.
The first one and the third were lame because they were much more serious but the second was so bad that it was good.

Though "Howard the Duck" is somewhat well known it does not fit the obscurity but it does have the feel of a "B" movie.

I don't know if it fits the bill but "The Garbage Pail Kids" was something of interest what I was young. Me and my friends at the time when the movie was released had a huge collection of Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, we wanted to see the movie but of course non of our parents would let us see it.

Other movies I have heard of include

Class of Nuke 'Em High

Toxic Avenger

and

Surf Nazis Must Die
"And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by." John Masefield Sea-Fever

A couple B's from 1982:

"Swamp Thing" with Adrienne Barbeau and Louis Jordan

"Satan's Mistress" also know as "Demon Rage" on DVD with Lana Wood and Britt Ekland.Wood who is Natalie's sister show her great assets.

I'm not sure these two from 1984 are class B's because today they have a big cult following: Top Secret with Val Kilmer and "Fright Night" with Chris Sarandon was pretty cool vampire movie with great special effects.

There were some really bad movies made in the 1980's mainly targeting the teen-aged market sometime called 'tit & zit' films. Some were very violent terror/horror, others were basically about teen boys trying to get laid, some were weird si-fi, some were just about cheap humor. Often made by smaller and independent studios, using few if any 'name' stars, others with cheesy music as well as cheap production values. USA Network used to have late on Friday and Saturday nights movie shows including one hosted and with short comedy sketches with the super busty Elvira, and 'Up All Night" with Gilbert Gotfried, Ronda Sherar and other being the studio/set up hosts of their showing of these kind of movies. Here is a link to wiki on the Up All Night program: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0272417/

One typical example was a film called 'Zapped' with TV's Scott Baio IIRC, where a horny teen boy has the power to strip clothes off women, and other ways for cheap laughs. Some of these films were direct to video, others were cheap copies and rip-offs of big films. Some were dead ends for their performers and production staffs, but others were early stepping points for future stars.

Wow does this thread bring back some memories. Shows there was more to the 80's than just shoulder pads, big hair, the first R word President of the USA! I remember a touching 80's movie called Lucas about a nerd boy who had a love jones for a popular cheerleader and of course wanted to taste what was under her very shor cheer skirt. 80's tit and zit movies featured nerds and cheerleaders!.

There was another 80's teen HBO cinematic tour de farce with a sort of disturbed rebel kid who was a football player but had an alcohalic dad and they were poor and he eventually hooked up with one of the rich girl cheerleaders. He'd make her say in a sexy solicitious whisper I Want You!! At the time, I was dating a long legged lass and we acted out scenes from this movie including her saying I Want You. Anyone remember "Private School" starring the hottie Phoebe Cates?

Less Than Zero featured Jamie Gertz looking quite shaggable in a micro mini business type suit.
Regarding finding out the identity of those two movie classics go to IMDB and in their search type in plot line ideas. You may come up with the answer.

"Return to Oz" - With Faruza Balk.

I really liked this movie, not sure why. It's a creepy take on a sequel to The Wizard of Oz.

Anyone heard of Terrorvision? about the family with the alien monster that's accidentally jettisoned from a space ship as trash and ends up trapped in the tv. It then gets released and eats everyone and the family accidentally punctures the space suit of the guy sent to rescue them so he dies. The creature can also make itself look like the people it's eaten so it can eat more people.

Another one that comes to mind is about a pizza guy who's actually a gigolo. All the women in the neighborhood call in and order pizzas from him and the code word is something like asking for extra anchovies. Things get awkward when his own mother, who doesn't realize that he's a gigolo, calls, and he shows up and realizes that the woman ordering his services is his own mother!

Finally, does anyone remember the Mark Hamill post star wars movie where he takes this super hot one of a kind sports car to the convenience store and it get stolen!

Sorry, i can't remember the names of the last two movies, but I do remember the plot lines pretty well.
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

I remember that film. It really wasn't that bad.

The 1980s were the decade of the horny teenager if I remember correctly. "Porkys" and the infamous "has anyone seen Mike Hunt?" scene is classic.

I think "Colonel Hannibal Smith" played the Swamp Thing at Universal Studios, on the A-Team. That was what he did for a job, between kicking ass with the A-Team and hiding from Colonel Decker.

I wouldn't call that a B movie because it was really popular and was played a major theaters. I remember seeing at the theater when it came out, along with a lot of other people my age. I liked the film, but I didn't like how that 68 Cadillac got destroyed.

I would consider movies that were either second feature or straight to video B movies. I remember when I was in high school my buddies and I would get drunk on Friday nights and watch some lame B movies, which were almost always horror films. We would go to the video store and rent VHS tapes of movies that were fairly new, but none of us ever remembered seeing advertised at the theater.

I suppose it's relative. You ask Joe Blow on the street and 9 times out of 10 he wouldn't know this movie. It's not certainly something Heather Graham is putting on her resume.

I remember that one, but can't remember the name.

Anyone remember Videodrome (or something like that)? We rented it once as teenagers but we were drunk when we watched it (or high) and so it seemed a lot cooler/wierder than it probably was.

There you go:
Loverboy (1989) - IMDb

You might recognize the actor in the title role…!
(And a few of the others as well.)

That would depend on who you would ask. I doubt any of my high school students have heard of it, but then again many of them have never heard of some movies that were big hits and award winners from 20 years ago. I doubt a lot of people over 45 would know about License to drive either, as they were too old to fit the demographic the film was targeted for when it was new.

I was thinking of a film in which Michael Pare and (a very young) George Clooney become gigolos, but I couldn't find the name of the film.
