Phyllis was a dear friend - and my special name for Vaporlock was Vapo. I met her on here and we became friends and have hung out a few times at YYZ meets. Vapo will always hold a special place in my heart.

Peace be with you Vapo.

Wow, I'm very saddened...

I've corresponded with her in the chat room before, she was incredibly sweet and I've never heard her say a mean thing. May she rest in peace, and I want to thank her for bringing so much positivity in the world. It's so difficult to accept that she is no longer with us.

WHAT??!!!!

I was absolutely shocked to read the thread title. Although I never met Phyllis, we corresponded a bit through email last July, and she was quite a frequent poster a few years ago.

Now that I reread the last email she sent me, she had mentioned she was sic, and I'm really sad that I never responded to it....

Also heartfelt condolences to Mr Spaceman; as I recall they lived together.

I am really sadden to read about this. I knew she was battling cancer for some time. She was such an awesome person who I never met in person but knew her well through joking around here in the forums and we even chatted on the phone a few times. I remember when she mailed me copies of the Toronto Star newspaper with Rush on the front cover. They had performed at the SARS benefit concert in 2004. We had the same taste in music, cars and aviation. She was such an awesome person and I hate that she was taken from us too early in life.

It has been a few years since I have been in regular contact with Phyllis through A.net (she was a well respected and loved "regular" of the chat room). I've always known her as a friendly, energetic, positive, and outgoing person. I've nothing but positive things to say about her. She will definitely be missed by many members of this website including myself. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and acquaintances.

Rest in peace, Phyllis.

Oh dear I am so shocked to hear that. I have spoken to her long time ago in the chatroom. She was so lovely, wonderful and cheerful woman. She was so excited to have a chat with us and so help others. She loved to tell us lots of stories such as about her family, her children, her a.net friends they met and aviation as well.

I'm not sure we were told/knew the she was like our mother...

Really genuinely saddened to hear this. I always used to enjoy our conversations in the chat room all those years ago and she is a true a.net legend, I'd wondered why I hadn't seen her around on the forums for ages. So sad to hear it was cancer too, I lost my grandmother to cancer in November and it was (and still is) hard to take.

Take care Phyllis

Just saw this on FB this morning and I'm just in tears. Phyllis was a dear, delightful lady. I met her in Toronto a few times. We shared a connection both being from Nothern Ontario and she always called me her Canadian girl. I was supposed to see her again in two weeks when Mr. Harlot and I were going to be in Toronto. I'm so sorry I won't get the chance to see her again.

I know wherever she is she's enjoying looking at float planes and laughing that hearty, contagious laugh of hers...and her "dam fine ass" continues on. I will miss my Northern Ontario girl very much.

I don't think she and Mr. Spaceman have been a couple for a while, but I am sure Chris is feeling her loss too, so hugs to you, Mr. Spaceman.

Wow...I'm blown over by this bit of news. It seems like the old guard is dying off and that every time I look another member has passed on. I think it'd be awesome if a.net created an "honor flight" page of sorts to memorialize its departed members. We're a long lived community here and when something like this happens that person's contributions to the community should be memorialized in some form other than a simple forum thread that will eventually sink far past the first page.

I am so shocked to hear this tragic news.

Although I never met Phyllis in person, she was one of the first people on A.net to reach out to me outside of the forums. I remember how wonderful it was to see another lady from Canada on A.net. We used to e-mail back and forth a fair bit, but I'm afraid I haven't spoken with her recently. It was long ago, but I really do hope that she knows how much that meant to me. Airliners.net certainly will not be the same without her. Though we may be shaken by this horrible loss, we can take comfort in knowing that she is now free from all pain and suffering.

RIP Phyllis

A tribute, not to be cliche:

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

— John Gillespie Magee, Jr

Peace, Phyllis.
