Happy Memorial Day: Thanks To All Vets.

Mon May 28, 2012 11:34 pm

Today, the Memorial Day is recognized in the US. Thanks to all U.S. vets that served. My grandfather was a combat fighter pilot in the South Pacific during WW2 flying p-51s and a-20 bombers. He got shot down on his day off in another guy's plane and ended up flying a total of 66 combat missions and received a Silver Star, the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart. Thanks for your service!

Seconded. My dad's dad served in the Army Corps of Engineers driving a munitions truck... had to bail out of the truck one time due to a strafing run from an enemy aircraft.

Following his footsteps of operating transports filled with things that go boom, my dad served in the Air Force as a KC-135Q tanker pilot.

Also, my step dad served in the Army in Korea as a grunt, was shot a few times, blew up some bridge to allow the Americans to retreat (being only 3 of 12 to survive that operation,) and crazy other stuff because he was a crazy (but awesome) person.

On days like this I like to extend the thanks to military families and all the responsible citizens that make the country function while servicemembers are deployed!
Ironically I have never flown a Delta MD-90 :)

Not to dis anyone, but Memorial Day is to remember all those who gave their lives in the defense of this great nation we call the USA. As one who served in the USMC, I am not to be told thank you on this holiday. I think people sometimes forget that this Day is for the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice defending this nation. Veteran's Day is the day we thank and remember those who served. I hope this post didn't come out the wrong way.

But nobody chooses to make the sacrifice. They choose to serve, knowing that they might have to make the sacrifice.

I can't thank the dead. I can thank the living who are taking the risk of joining them.
