Are You Going On Any Vacations Soon?

Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:15 pm

Hello world!

I am an aviation geek (I am sure all a.netters are) and am new to this site. I was just thinking of my vacation (which is only 5 days away!  ) and was thinking if you guys have any vacations that you will be going to soon.

Here is my contribution:

-I will fly on an Air Canada 763 (reg. unknown, routing: YYZ-BCN)
-I will go on a 7-night, 8-day Western Europe cruise on the "Norwegian Epic"
-Stay in Barcelona for 2 nights, 3 days...
-...and will fly on another AC 763 (reg. unknown, routing: BCN-YYZ)

Please share your contributions!
Greetings from YYZ - Terminal 1!

New York for 4th of July week and Greece for 2 weeks in August. Flying AA (bummer) LAX-LGA-JFK-LAX and BA LAX-LHR-ATH-LHR-LAX.

May be able to cram a weekend in San Francisco sometime in the summer but that depends on workload.

First of all: Welcome to A.net !

My next trip will be end of June heading to Manchester U.K. for the annual Meeting there, staying for 5 nights.
Flights will be 1.75 hrs nonstops on BE E170 or E190 flying HAJ to MAN and back.
While in the U.K. I will fly an open jaw daytrip LPL - BFS on U2 followed by BFS - LBA on LS for the pure fun of exploring airports new to me.

Enjoy your stay in Barcelona; it will be a memorable one, as the city just has so much to offer to tourists.

The Sagrada Familia is a must-see, at least from the outside.

If time allows head for Placa Espanya after 8 pm and walk up towards the Magic Fountain; listen to the music and marvel at the dancing fountains (in case you have seen the display at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, then do expect something quite different. Keep in mind that the Magic Fountain is much (!) older.)

If your family and you would like to see some typical architecture of Spain (and not just from Barcelona resp. Catalunya), pay a visit to the Poble Espanyol on the foot of hill "Mont Juic", not too far from the Magic Fountain.

In the evening it is fun to stroll trough the small streets and passages off the Ramblas and see how locals (and tourists) flock out to almost each bar or restaurant available. Keep in mind that dinner usually does not start before 2130h.

If you are tired of the city (or if it is too hot in the city), consider to head to the beach of Casteldelfels. Trains run from Sants Estacion (railway station) all the way to the beach. Alight at "Platja de Castelldefels" (one stop after "Castelldefels), but check that the train of line R2 actually stops there. Trains from Sants should leave at minutes 15 and 45 after the hour.
From station "Platja de Castelldefels" you can smell & see the beach & sea, so no further walking directions required.

In 3 weeks we're going on a road trip to France. Staying in the Loire valley just outside Tours, where my wife is presenting at a conference - I'll be with the children for a few days, mainly visiting castles and chateaux. Then we're heading to Meaux, near Paris, to camp for a week, including a visit to Disneyland. The kids should like it, as long as they aren't too bored in the car between stops!

I'm trying to schedule 2 of them...

1) A visit to Yellowstone, Tetons, and up to Montana.

2) Inca trail hike to Machu Pichu and then on to Easter Island for a few days.
I want to live in an old and converted 727...

Hi!

Hopefully I will be driving to a place called Baden in Switzerland with my parents and aunt. My mum and dad like thermal baths and I like them too. And Swiss coffee and croissants!

Many thanks,

Not sure if it counts as a vacation, but if I can work out the $$$, my friend in Israel is going to become a father, and I've been asked to be the godfather, so if I can save up the money and find good airfare, I'll be headed over there sometime in November/December. If I pull this off, I'd hope to be able to make up for the last trip, which I had to cut short because of my ankle.

My next vacation is actually a combo of business and pleasure at the end of July into the 1st week of August. Flying HA (of course) LIH-HNL-LAS on the B717 and A332. Have a weekend with friends and then a conference at Caesars Palace.

After that, hopefully another combo trip in September to Washington, DC most likely via DCA on AA or UA but would rather do HNL-JFK-DCA on HA and B6 just for the hell of it.

Yes - Going to Bangkok (1 night), Budapest (7 nights), New York (3 nights), Orlando (3 nights), Turkey (1 night), Kuala Lumpur (2 nights), Brunei (1 night) - Leaving on Saturday week. - Yes in that order!

Bangkok and Brunei are pretty much overnight transit stops. Same applies with Turkey, but got a really cheap J class FRA-IST-KUL.

Yellowstone and Tetons are next to Montana. In fact, parts of Yellowstone are in Montana and Idaho. The drive from Yellowstone to Bozeman is beautiful! We went there two years ago. That part of Idaho is very conservative, but, other than that, it is great!

Quoting Superfly (Reply 14):
You need more than one night in Bangkok.

But, one night in Bankok makes the hard man humble. Also, one night in Bankok makes the tough guy crumble...

Our holiday is coming up in a few weeks. We are driving to STS to ALW. Hopefully, my mom will have been moved by then. I hope we can squeeze in a side trip to Trail, British Columbia. I have wanted to go there for decades. That would involve us going through the city I hate most of all: Spokane. I can't wait for that one...

That's a pretty good one!

We did the Western Med last year and I'll do it again if we see some really good prices. I have the FF miles to get to Europe and can be ready to go in hours.

The other trip we want to make is a river cruise in Europe. I have FF miles for that also - and a lotos hope.

We did NYC earlier this year for some shows and that was really good. Saw Rock of Ages and Anything Goes. Both worth the stiff price.

The only thing booked is Branson with the grandkids for 4 days, starting tomorrow. Since it is only a 4 hour drive it is realistic to have season passes to Silver Dollar City.

Squeeze and I are going to go to YVR next month for a week. Mandatory visits to my brother and her sister, but otherwise we plan to be tourists. Do the sights, lunch on Grouse Mountain for one, couple of good dinners, will try to hike through Capilano Park and also try to find a zipline outlet (anyone knows of one, pls IM me).

She doesn't know it yet but I am collecting info on St Lucia for next winter, two weeks, the complete libretto.

Not so much a vacation, but I'll be heading to SYD for a Star Trek convention next weekend flying Virgin Australia's A332. I'm hoping I get one of their brand new aircraft rather than their old, tatty ex-EK birds.

I'm looking forward to it. Jeri Ryan and Manu Intiraymi are the guests of honour.

routing CCS-PTY-REC-PTY-CCS (738 and 737-700 combo)

CM has for the new fights a milage special and I will get for the trip around 18.000 miles... not bad for a ticket price of just 400 usd... all in - also I am crossing finger to get a free upgrade due to my silver status... cheers

We are going back to the UK to see family in September around my cousins wedding and taking a side trip as usual for proper vacation - this year will be MLA.

Fly overnight Friday TS YVR-LGW, spend the weekend in Kent with my sister in law, head STN-MLA with FR on the Monday morning and stay in MLA until Friday morning.

Fly U2 MLA-MAN and connect to BE MAN-EDI and spend the weekend in Fife with my inlaws and get to my cousins wedding on the Saturday. Drive back down to London Monday morning with my parents and make a rouadtrip out of it - first night N Yorkshire to see my sister, 2nd night Grimsby area to see my best bud and 3rd night somewhere else, possibly Norfolk, Thursday see my gran & uncle in St Albans and get in an after noon at my old airport LTN   and back on the Friday with TS LGW-YVR and a weekend home (hopefully on the beach) before back to work.

Well, depends what your idea of fun is... If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, come to Romania. It's close enough to Turkey. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. You can ask here if you prefer.

If you just wanna see pretty cities in Eastern Europe, the typical choices are Prague and Budapest. I personally enjoyed Riga and Tallinn, but some consider them Northern Europe.

As for me, I'm going to Norway in a month, and then a flash tour of Cyprus-Malta-Bologna-San Marino-Chisinau in August. Plus a couple of days in Montreal and Toronto later on.

We are taking the Lake Shore Ltd along the USA's Fourth Coast (Amtrak ad) for exactly that reason! The train runs along the shore of Lake Erie from Toledo (night time)-Cleveland (about sunrise)-Buffalo.
Having visited the world's largest lake in 2010 I would really like to see the Great Lakes. We don't do lakes very well in Australia, except for desert salt lakes.

This is a plane lover's forum, right?

This will be my holidays in July.

Going to the Farnborough Air Show and plane spotting at LHR 4 days/3 nights. I hope the flying displays will be good.

Great hotel by the runways at LHR with prime airport views. Will coach and train to FAB every day.

Flying with Swiss via Geneva both ways. Allowed myself plenty of connecting time in Geneva to go chocolate shopping.

Should be a great trip with much plane viewing... weather permitting. I don't think I will sleep much at all.
I am excited!

Sunshine... please!

I have so much time to take off from work, I really need to go on vacation this year (haven't had one since August 2010). I'm thinking in September once the kids are back in school, maybe I'll try to jump on the HA flight from JFK to HNL and see if I can swap my timeshare to Hawaii. That would be my big vacation.

But, in the interim, I'm going to treat myself for my birthday and have a mini-vacation later this month. 3 days, 2 nights on Fire Island. Just chilling by the beach and pool, and consuming a lot of vodka LOL!
